Warhammer Online Op/Ed: Flying Solo

I Want to Be Left Alone!

While it may sound like an odd combination, there are many in the MMO
game world who prefer solo play to the social efforts of guilds and
friends. While their motivations might be hard to explain they are
becoming a larger voice in the industry and even social players who
rarely solo are joining them. Will Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning
provide them enough content? Ten Ton Hammer looks at what we know so
far.

Now an interesting phrase stands out in that quote
and no it isn't the
Soccer reference because we know no one plays Soccer in America.
Tricking you into making friends seems like an odd way to present a
mechanic but it's subtle and brilliant in nature. What they essentially
had in mind here was that you'd show up to help assault a city, a Keep,
or play a scenario and the classical Esprit De Corps would kick in
prompting new friends and allies in the war. In addition to this, it's
a well known fact that Creative Director Paul Barnett has a preference
for solo play and has no problems letting people know that. With that
in mind it seems very likely he has been providing his input about this
playstyle.

Warhammer Online: Career Mastery - Swordmaster

Will You Master the
Swordmaster?

With movements so fast that it's hard for the eye to follow the
Swordmasters use clean, swift strikes with their swords to pave the way
through their enemies. For all the samurai like qualities they have
though, you may be wondering "Are those pointy helmets actually
comfortable?" but that's for another time. Today we're looking at how
the Swordmasters became so incredibly skilled. The answer is Career
Mastery of course! Come take a peek at the secrets of these incredibly
deadly tanks.

The Swordmaster fights with magical enchantments to
bolster the
strength of his attacks and is a deadly front-line warrior.
Surprisingly agile with his finely-crafted Elven Greatsword, the
Swordmaster is the vanguard of any Elf army.

Famous NPC's and Their Stories

We see them all the time, milling about taverns or government buildings, waiting excitedly for an adventurer to come their way. Non-Player Characters all have a story and it will be no different in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Recently released concept art shows 5 of these interesting NPC's and Ten Ton Hammer has dug up what they could from the Warhammer universe to give you a little background.

The April Newsletter for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning showed us a few new pieces of unique concept art which included Order and Destruction NPC's. Sure they have names, but who are they in the vast Warhammer universe? What is their role in the grand scheme and what should you know about them? Why do the research when we've done it for you already? We've dug up what we could on these interesting characters and provided our results below.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning's Final Class?

Very Scientific Reasoning

Everyone's been waiting and waiting for the final Warhammer Online: Age
of Reckoning class to be revealed. Well, Brock "Brokain" Ferguson
decided to wait no longer and has given us a glimpse of the High Elven
Melee DPS class. Using the Scientific Method and hundreds (read three)
hours of grueling research, Brock takes us step by step through the
process and presents the facts of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning's
Final Class!

Since I learned the scientific method in Biology
class this semester, I'm going to lay down some facts to support my hypothesis in
order to show what is almost certainly going to be the final Class in
Warhammer Online. There are six steps to the scientific method. Let's
look at them now shall we?

Warhammer Online: Tome of Knowledge FAQ

Every Day I Write the
Book

One of the most interesting aspects of Warhammer Online: Age of
Reckoning is the Tome of Knowledge, which provides players with not
only information about the game but a way to gain small
rewards. If you are fascinated by lore or a good story this is
one mechanic you will want to learn more about. Ten Ton Hammer has
updated it's FAQ to include a section of the Tome of Knowledge and
shares what we know about it so far. If you'd like to learn a
little bit more about the quests, statistics, and rewards involved more
information is just a click away.

Q:
What sort of things will the Tome of Knowledge track and is their a
limit to how far it will track certain things?

A: The
Tome of Knowledge will track everything you do. It tracks kills,
Kill vs Death ratios, Total deaths, Achievements, experience. Anything
you do in the game it will track. And it never has a limit. So if you
kill a million things, the Tome will reflect that you've killed a
million things and also break them down by creature type.

Warhammer Online: A Live Q&A with EA Mythic

Warhammer Online Answers
from EA Mythic

Ten Ton Hammer had the opportunity to sit in with EA Mythic's Warhammer
Online: Age of Reckoning development team recently while they
courageously answered numerous questions regarding the game. Providing
entertaining metaphors and hard hitting answers, they discussed the
role and benefit of guilds, specifics about scenarios, and tons more.
We've got a complete rundown of everything they had to say just inside,
including three new screenshots!

To provide a state of the game Wednesday evening, the
EA Mythic
Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning design team--which included Producer
Jeff Hickman, Creative Director Paul Barnett, and Associate Producer
Josh Drescher--fielded a number of questions. After the customary
greetings we've come to expect from these dynamic three, things started
off with an explanation of where exactly the team is with closed beta.
It was stated they are working on "targeted" beta" right now, which
means testing specific content with scrutiny. Their current focus is on
the battles between the mighty Altdorf and the evil home of the Chaos,
the Inevitable city.
Warhammer Op/Ed: Five Things to Worry About

With the launch of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning approaching, we are witnessing a unique period in the history of MMO games. Almost like the alignment of stars, some of the industries biggest and brightest stars will soon shine together. RadarX examines some commonly discussed challenges EA Mythic will need to overcome this fall including three highly competitive products and why Warhammer Online will likely do just fine despite them.

Competition. To some this word inspires fear that only the prosepect of having to watch another Uwe Bolle movie could inspire. To others it makes muscles tighten and brings a fiery stare which sends their enemies fleeing. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning releases amongst a few other major contenders which will make this one of the most interesting times in MMO gaming history to date.

Running against both PC and console titles how will it fair this fall?

Find the rest of the article right here and be sure to stop by our forums to let us know what you think.
