  • Director Gaute Godager Shares His Thoughts

ActionTrip started the day by updating their site with this interview. Keep reading to see what they were able to learn about the upcoming Age of Conan.

ActionTrip: Do you feel that your previous achievements, like Anarchy Online, are of any help throughout the development of Age of Conan?

Gaute Godager: Yes, absolutely! Making a massively multiplayer online game is a whole different ball-game than making a single-player game. It's just such an incredibly complex venture that as a game developer you end up learning something every day as you go along. The first time you make such a game, it's going to be a roller-coaster ride to the very end.

  • The bloodshed can't begin soon enough, we say.

GameSpy has posted a preview of the upcoming Age of Conan over the weekend...

More so than any previous MMO I've ever seen, the character creation interface in Age of Conan sets an amazing tone for the game's brutal world. It's been described before: characters start out as chattel in a slave galley, and it is within the harrowing decks of this ship that you get to define your avatar's looks. By tweaking all the sliders, you can make your character look as feral and brutish as you want, adjusting the precise degree of slant on his broken nose, the depth of the dip of his brow, the contours of his arse. Yes, "arse." If you don't believe me, you can go into the character creation interface and see for yourself. When it comes to impropriety and barbarism, however, these little affectations are just the tip of the iceberg for Age of Conan. It definitely looks like Funcom is going all out for this one.

  • Drunken Brawling, Spell Weaving, and More

Gamespot has posted an updated review of the upcoming Age of Conan. This preview includes some screenshots that are worth taking a look at.

Godager gave us a quick tour of various aspects of the game, from the early stage when you create a character to some of the later stages. You'll start the game as a galley slave on a sailing vessel. If you create a male character, you'll be one of the poor saps who has to row all day long, while female characters are consigned to some of the quarters. But don't worry; you won't be a slave for long. After you finish creating your character, you'll escape and find yourself washed ashore with nothing but a broken oar as your weapon; from there, you'll be able to determine your own destiny.

  • Age of Conan Progress Report

IGN has a new preview of Age of Conan posted. It includes some great screenshots!

Let's make things perfectly clear. Age of Conan is not for children. In fact, Crom may actually hate children, we're not sure. This is an M rated title for just about every descriptor in the ESRB rating system. Heads are cut off, drugs are taken, booze is consumed, and for all we know, dogs and cats are off in the bushes making babies. The Conan mythos is adult themed through and through. It's about an assault on the senses, wicked attention to pleasure seeking, and those who take pleasure in others pain. It's a brutal world to live in and we can't wait to be part of it all.

  • Lots of New Screenshots!

Vault Network has posted a preview of Age of Conan today. It includes lots of new screenshots as well as a look at the upcoming game.

It appears that the game will begin in a traditional fashion, with an extensive character-creation editor for shaping the look of your in-game persona. Sliders enable minute changes to your character’s appearance, and the results are quite realistic—certainly more lifelike than most current-day MMOs.

Interestingly enough, there’s not a lot of early determination of your character’s “history” or attributes. After you choose a gender and craft your character’s appearance, you only have the option to select a class from Aquilonian, Cimmerian or Stygian. No skill-point allocations or other determinations are thrown at you. It’s only when you achieve Level 5 that you can choose from an archetype: Mage, Priest, Rogue or Soldier.

  • Age of Conan Preview Tells All

Voodoo Extreme has posted an interesting preview of Age of Conan. Among other things we learn that there is much to see when it comes to character creation!

Gaute started off by creating a new character from scratch, which turned out to be a smooth experience. First, you choose your race and gender, then you're able to customize how your avatar looked by moving around various sliders. To give us an idea of what the character creator was capable of, Gaute showed us he was able to clone Arnold Schwarzenegger's evil twin in about two minutes. One of the more intriguing—and bound to be popular—options was the "Arse" adjuster, which adjusts the size and shape of your character's derriere. Things suddenly became much more interesting.

  • New Age of Conan Screenshots

This batch of screencaps from Norwegian developer Funcom's excursion south into the post-Pax Romana lawlessness of the Hyborian regions gets a little more close and personal. Blood and guts aside, Funcom had me at the nicely done character models and landscapes. Take a look!
