Hail to the king, baby!

The O.C. register ran a story detailing Blizzard's rise to the top during BlizzCON last weekend. Industry followers probably won't find much that they didn't know, but it's a pretty good summary of the Irvine, CA-based developer's game-ography and recipe for success.

But Morhaime and co-founder Allen Adham convinced the skeptics. The game turned out to be "WoW," the company's most successful game ever.

"With 'World of Warcraft,' we bet the company," Sams said.

The Irvine company seems to have a magic touch in a highly competitive industry where many games fail. Blizzard's employee base has grown 10-fold in four years to more than 2,500 worldwide. It was credited with helping parent company Vivendi Games post 804 million euros ($1.1 billion U.S.) in revenues last year, up 25.4 percent from the prior year.
