We don't all see things the same way. Different people interpret scenes in TV shows and movies different ways, according to their mental frame of reference. For example, when I watch "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," I see an angry, cynical commentary on a lost society, an orgy of excess during the decline of a once-great empire. It's a wistful, poignant look back at the bygone dreams of the American people, the dreams that got choked out by politics and greed and decadence. It is mournful and tragic, and also darkly comic - we laugh because the reality we are being shown is ridiculously bleak. It's a story about decay and loss, and of the ironic celebration of these things - joyfully taking part in the downward spiral of Western culture.
When "drug culture" people watch it, I imagine all they see is the hilarious drug trips and stoner antics, like it's a Cheech & Chong movie. Different frame of references, you see.
MMO gamers have their own unique take on things. I tend to see the world in MMO terms after a long session of gaming, so some aspects of TV shows and movies will carry a different meaning to me than they might to the person sitting next to me. Presented herewith are a few pictures to illustrate the MMO player's interpretation of select TV and movie scenes.
