Heroes of the Storm Tier List February 2018

by on Feb 21, 2018

In this Heroes of the Storm Tier List we provide Hero rankings based on the current meta and our personal experience.

This page will always show the latest Arena of Valor Tier List for ranked, competitive play and is designed to rank Heroes in terms of their strength in the current meta. Although some Heroes are considered niche or balanced, those that aren't Tier S or A shouldn't be considered poor. While any match can be won with any Hero, this list is designed to present you with the strongest.

Tier List Descriptors

Tier S+ - Greatly Overpowered. These Heroes are undeniably too strong and can be placed in any composition and succeed.

Tier S - Overpowered. Heroes which are often first pick, first ban material and are considered top tier.

Tier A+ - Slightly Overpowered. Just above the point balance, these Heroes should see only minor changes.

Tier A - Balanced. These Heroes should see few if any changes.

Tier B - Slightly Underpowered. These Heroes are good, but often require a highly skilled individual to get the most out of them.

Tier C - Underpowered. Considered weak, team compositions generally need to be built around a Heroes in this pool. Rarely, if ever, seen in competitive play.

Tier D Greatly Underpowered. These Heroes are not considered viable.

Tier List Movement 🡳🡱

"Based on recent HGC play, we've shuffled the Tier List just a touch to better reflect the must-have picks".

🡱 Moved Blaze to A+ Tier. His damage isn't amazing, but his Bunker combined with his AOE pressure can work well in a sustain composition.

🡱 Added Maiev to S+ Tier. Even from the PTR, she goes straight in at the top as the only Hero viable to truly shut down mobile opponents. Right now, she's downright broken. Here's her build guide.

🡱 Moved Tracer to S Tier. She has seen constant use during HGC, and remains a huge threat during any sustain fight.

🡱 Moved Malthael to A+ Tier. His rework took from him, but gave him much more value thanks to his default cleave. A real threat once more if he isn't shut down.

🡳 Moved Kael'thas to A Tier. He can carry quick match fairly hard, but he's only seen some of the time in competitive.

🡳 Moved Zul'jin to A Tier. Much weaker after his patch, and doesn't fair as well in the current meta (especially vs Genji and Tracer).

🡳 Moved Gul'dan to A Tier. There's no doubting his sustain, but the current meta of Lucio and Alexstrasza does reduce his DOT/lack of burst potency.

🡱 Moved Chromie to A+ Tier. Purely because she's so strong in the right hands, and with many fights now occuring over longer periods, she can bombard from afar with ease.

Alarak [Guide] Assassin A strong kit but a high skill ceiling. In the right hands he can be exceptional. In the wrong hands, a liability. Muradin Ana [Guide] Support Excellent healing, but struggles to solo Support and easily killed by experienced players. Genji Artanis [Guide] Warrior Excellent self shielding and a very useful long-duration Blind Heroic. His Blade Dash > Phase Prism can cause huge problems. Varian Auriel [Guide] Support Excellent healing, valuable crowd control and unrivalled sustain. Lunara Azmodan [Guide] Specialist Capable lane pusher, but he lacks mobility. His health pool make him a damage sponge; best on large Battlegrounds. Malthael Brightwing [Guide] Support Global presence, shielding, Polymorph, healing, spell damage reduction - fantastic. Jaina D.Va [Guide] Warrior A nuisance in the right hands and very strong on Braxis Holdout. Alarak Gul'dan [Guide] Assassin Incredible sustain, fantastic damage and Horrify is a game-changer. Alarak Illidan [Guide] Assassin Incredible mobility, high damage and and an ability to dive in and escape make him strong. Unfortunately he's easy to counter-draft against and is challenging to play well. Uther Jaina [Guide] Assassin Huge burst damage and crowd control thanks to her trait. Amazing wave clear. Greymane Johanna [Guide] Warrior Huge survivability thanks to her trait as well as some powerful crowd control skills.  Leoric Junkrat [Guide] Assassin Solid AOE damage, but lacks reliable burst to finish off players.  Illidan Kael'thas [Guide] Assassin Great AOE pressure, good zoning potential with Phoenix and high damage output. Nova Kerrigan [Guide] Assassin Not as broken as she was, but still strong due to her hard CC and damage. Can be out-drafted and relies almost entirely on her combo. One miss and she's weak. Muradin Kharazim [Guide] Support A burst heal, mobility, vision (if needed) and a clutch-heal Heroic. Strong in the right hands, with surprisingly good damage. Cassia Leoric [Guide] Warrior Slow, predictable but strong in the right hands. His constant presence is incredibly frustrating on maps such as Braxis Holdout. Valla Li Li [Guide] Support Her blinds are useful and her damage is surprisingly good. A great second support. Anub'arak Lt. Morales [Guide] Support High utility and the best single target healing and shielding in the game make her a strong pick. Unfortunately she's easy to draft against. Best as a last pick. Zeratul Lunara [Guide] Assassin High single target and DOT damage, mobility, poke and a powerful slow make Lunara formidable. Chen Medivh* [Guide] Specialist Amazing utility, totally unique and a strong support Hero. Sadly he's very difficult to use in a PUG environment. *Coordinated teams only. Lunara Malfurion [Guide] Support Ranged poke, a large instant AOE root, strong heals over time and an incredible silence. Kerrigan Nova [Guide] Assassin Good burst from her Snipe and her Clones are still strong right now. Tassadar Ragnaros [Guide] Assassin An good kit with flexibility, versatility and most important - damage and poke. Lunara Rexxar [Guide] Warrior A good stun and slow, and very strong in the right hands. Very difficult to play well but can excel in a double-warrior setup. Illidan Stitches [Guide] Warrior A well placed Hook and Gorge still works incredibly well, especially when paired with Uther. Leoric Sgt. Hammer [Guide] Specialist Strong siege potential and high damage if left unchecked. Her range also makes her a real threat but she can be drafted against easily. Chromie Sylvanas [Guide] Specialist Amazing lane push potential, an strong silence and reasonable damage from Withering Fire. Valeera Tassadar [Guide] Support Unrivalled shielding and utility while offering vision and zoning potential through Force Wall. Not always a strong solo support. Varian Thrall [Guide] Assassin High melee damage, poke through Chain Lightning, self-sustain and an valuable Heroic (Sundering). Xul Tychus [Guide] Assassin A Warrior buster that is focused entirely on bringing down double warrior compositions. Genji Tyrande [Guide] Support Her stun is good and her trait useful. At times, a little too reliant on Sentinel damage. Kerrigan Uther [Guide] Support Fantastic burst healing, a solid talent rework and his stun remains potent. Malthael Valeera [Guide] Assassin Solid burst, good utility and a real menace in the right hands (her silence is just obnoxious) Arthas Varian [Guide] Warrior/Assassin A solid choice regardless of composition and plenty of options when he hits level 10. Arthas Xul [Guide] Specialist Good lane push, a single-target root and two reasonable Heroic abilities. Best used on small maps where he can rotate lanes quickly. Gul'dan Zeratul [Guide] Assassin Eye-watering burst damage and two Heroics that offer utility and/or damage. Johanna Zul'jin [Guide] Assassin A very high risk, high reward Hero that's vulnerable to Genji and Tracer. Genji

Kael'thas Garrosh [Guide] Warrior Medium He requires good skill to play well, and his pull removal has crippled him. Tychus Nazeebo [Guide] Specialist Medium Low mobility and capable of pushing only when late game. His Corpse Spiders offer reasonable poke damage. Tracer Raynor [Guide] Assassin Easy He might be one-dimensional but he hits hard, has an useful knockback and works amazingly well against Diablo. Chen [Guide] Warrior Medium High health pool, amazing survivability if you pursue the Shield/Brew share build. Alarak Cho'gall [Guide] Assassin Medium Two Heroes in one, he brings good damage and strong Heroics. Unfortunately he's easy to bring down with the right draft, massively vulnerable to crowd control and ill-suited to large Battlegrounds. Leoric Gazlowe [Guide] Specialist Medium Good zoning potential with his turrets, but surpassed by Probius Greymane Kel'Thuzad [Guide] Assassin Hard Amazing damage, and a global Heroic that's incredibly frustrating. Too easy to dive and shut down. Genji Murky [Guide] Specialist Medium His rework is solid. Good only on large Battlegrounds where he can happily split push. Li Ming Probius [Guide] Specialist Medium He can zone out any team with ease, and can bully a lane incredibly quickly. Valeera The Butcher* [Guide] Assassin Medium Lamb to the Slaughter can guarantee a kill. Drafted properly he can hard carry any team (1000+ damage basic attacks!).  Cassia T.L.V* [Guide] Specialist Hard Difficult to play well but great for soaking experience. They remain very map specific. *Coordinated teams only. Li Ming
