Upon hitting level five, the leveling treadmill escalates
dramatically. To reach level five took me just under two hours. To hit
ten took me three times that number, and that was without any
significant death penalty. However, the designers of the game
didn’t include any “graveyards” or spawn
points beyond the standard spot in your city. If you die a lot (like
me), you’ll be spending a lot of time running to get back to
the mobs you were hunting previously.

If you have a weak heart when it comes to grinding, style="font-style: italic;">Last Chaos
is certainly not the game for you. This is a game all about the grind,
and there’s relatively little of consequence to do besides
grind. There is a PvP element, but in order to fully appreciate the
player versus player action, the grind must be accomplished.
You’ll be grinding and grinding and grinding
and…….

It will take many kills before you'll be able to handle
this monster. Look out!

With a Sword in Your Hand

The grind, however, wouldn’t be of terrible
consequence if combat in Last
Chaos
was exciting, strategic, or
engrossing. Unfortunately, the battles in style="font-style: italic;"> Last Chaos is less
than
appealing. Controlling your characters is accomplished with the
Korean-standard click-to-move solution, and finding monsters is
ultimately easy; they litter the countryside in every available color
and configuration. Attacking monsters is accomplished with another
click that enables the characters auto-attack option. Once the monster
has died, you rinse and repeat that scenario until you’ve
gained a level.

Special attacks are available to your character, but the
attacks are not necessary in defeating these monsters. They may speed
the process, or give you an upper hand against a higher level mob, but
essentially the game runs on an auto-attack scenario. Exploring with my
Titan, I found that using my special attack would allow me to one-shot
kill many of my enemies (I leveled up my Power Magnum strike to its
third level very early).

A Helping Hand

Perhaps one of the best aspects of style="font-style: italic;">Last Chaos is there
player
community. Unlike many MMOGs, Last
Chaos
seems to have a fairly helpful
player community behind it. A “Guardian System” has
been integrated into the game that allows higher level players to take
a lower level character under their wing and help them reach higher
levels at a faster pace. If the player reaches level 20 in under 10
days, the Guardian gains reputation points and the player gains a
class-specific weapon.

Thankfully, the text in Last Chaos is well-translated
and makes sense.

With the weapon in my eyes, I applied for a Guardian and
received one very quickly. Reaching level twenty was a chore, but I had
my Guardian there to back me up the entire way. We eventually reached
level 20; I gained my sword and he received reputation. It was a match
made in heaven.

Is It All Chaos?

Last Chaos
certainly has its faults, but in the end it evens
out to be an average game. Nothing was entirely surprising, nor were
there any huge problems with the game, it merely struck me as one of
many imported games that gathers a fair-sized following but never grows
to exponential levels like its higher-end brethren (Lineage I and II,
Sword of the New World, etc). With a few more tweaks, style="font-style: italic;">Last Chaos may
have even pulled in a higher score from me, mainly if the new player
experience had been improved.

One more note, I’d like to thank the localizers of
Last Chaos,
because the game didn’t suffer from the terrible
translation issues that many other Korean MMOGs make you suffer
through. The wording was strange at times, but there was nothing that
made my headache, nor was there any game-breaking grammar issues.

Finally, Last
Chaos
may be a game for those individuals
who’ve played a few other Korean MMOGs and know there way
around other massively multiplayer games. The pet system in style="font-style: italic;">Last Chaos
is fun and if you like a good grind, style="font-style: italic;">Last Chaos may be
the game for you!

style="font-style: italic;">Last Chaos can
be an enjoyable game for veterans of the MMOG genre, but new players
should be wary of the game.
