style="font-style: italic;">Let the minifig war between Pirates, Ninjas and Maelstrom begin!

Few things have survived the test of time like LEGOs. It seems like the building blocks have been around forever, even being used by some people as a way to express art. We've already been treated to a number of LEGO games such as LEGO Batman, LEGO Indiana Jones and LEGO Harry Potter, which in their own right are very fun and entertaining games. But the LEGO universe is much bigger today with the official launch of LEGO Universe Online, the franchise's first foray into the MMOG market.

“The LEGO Group has been looking forward to this moment for nearly ten years, and could not be more excited to invite the world to experience LEGO Universe for the first time,” said Mark William Hansen, LEGO Universe Senior Director, the LEGO Group. “NetDevil has been a wonderful partner and helped develop our vision to introduce an entirely new dimension of the LEGO play experience.”

As with real LEGOs, LEGO Universe Online will offer a hugely diverse number of options to create your own customized minifig character and build on your own land. The Builds and Behavior feature alone offers players a chance to construct unique builds within their own areas and even the possibility to recreate some classic games or other MMOGs in LEGO form.

How will the game fare in the MMOG division? We'll have to wait and see when the reviews start rolling out, but in the meantime you can pick up your own copy at retailers today. Additional details are available in the official press release.
