As recruits, everyone was given their standard issue shotgun and pistol with the completion of Boot Camp. As time went on you traded them in for bigger and better weaponry by completing missions or stripping the dead. How many times have you found yourself holding a piece of totally useless gear that would benefit another soldier? Continuing the human tradition of Capitalism, the AFS is now proud to offer you the opportunity to use the new Military Surplus system, where players can find and trade equipment better suited to their combat role

One of the first questions you should ask is "Where can I find a Military Surplus building?" There are only a few in the game but they are located at major hubs you can reach in mere moments.

Current Military Surplus Locations:

  • Wilderness: Twin Pillars
  • Palisades: Cumbria Research
  • Plateau: Fort Defiance
  • Plains: Irendas Colony
  • Thunderhead: Thunderhead Base

When you've reached one of the building and head inside you'll find a merchant with a blue symbol over his head. Interacting with him will bring up a screen with four tabs at the bottom indicating a function. The first of these is purchase items where you'll be procuring items.

As you can see on the right there is a place for you to name search, along with a level range, and a selector for rarity which should help narrows your search to just about exactty what you are looking for. Just beneath that you'll see expanding categories which will allow you select which weapon type, armor type or any other type of item you may be in need of. Keep in mind currently only Armor and Weapon sales are available.

The search itself will provide you quite a bit of information as you can see in the picture above. You get an icon showing you what type of equipment it is along with its level requirement. Next to that is the time remaining in the auction, the sellers name, and price. Note that the price listed is the buyout price, not the current bid for the item.

Next up we have the Create Auction tab which will allow you to sell your goods to anyone on the server. On the left hand side you'll notice the "Auction Configuration" which is where you'll set up your terms. The Buyout price is one of the most important things you'll do so carefully consider what you will ask and don't use the default, it's rare something is worth that little. Next you'll see the duration which will determine how long your item stays up for sale. The default is currently three days and finally the depost is how much it's going to cost you to run the auction. If you've played World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, or EverQuest 2 this should be fairly familiar.

You might have also noticed a "compare" area at the top which doesn't appear to be in the game yet. It's a pretty safe bet that this will allow you to compare what is going up to other items for sale. Note also the list to the right which is everything you have in your backpack that can be auctioned. Right clicking it will drop it into the center.

The third of these tabs simply lists the auctions you currently have going including the buy out, and time remaining. If you need to cancel an auction simply select the item and use the "Cancel Auction" button. The final tab is your received items, meaning anything you have won an auction for or failed to sell.

It's just that simple folks! If there is something we missed (this IS a new system) please feel free to email me and make sure to stop by our forums and let us know what you think.
