Tharask Arena

So you've decided to take on the dragon? Well it's a long way to Velah
and here's the first step: Vault of Night 1, Tharask Arena.
Before you enter make sure to read the text for this quest as it's
quite good.  You're entering into a gladiatorial battle and it's
not going to be pretty.

To prepare for this quest casters should bring crowd control in the
form of Solid Fog and Web and be  prepared to lay down damage as
well during the last battle.  Tanks should be prepared to dig in
for prolonged fights against overwhelming odds.  So a href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=231">good
AC and damage dealing weapon are in order.  Paladins and
Rangers really prove their worth here as they both can increase your AC
and longevity.  Fighters and Barbarians will need to focus on the
few casters in this quest fast and hard.  Healers need to come
ready to do their primary role and do it well as the large battles in
this quest can quickly overwhelm inexperienced groups.

that it's an underground cavern going in a southward direction as it

style="border: 2px solid ; width: 250px; height: 398px;" align="right"> style="font-family: tahoma;" size="-1">At your first junction you'll
find some Hobgoblins but not much else.  Note the explosive
barrels along the wall, more annoying than deadly but your party
members won't thank you if you set them on fire.  Note also that
the hall ways in this quest are neither too wide nor too narrow.
In fact they're the perfect width for a good web to slow down enemies.

Moving in a straight line down the hallway you're gonna come to a four
way intersection.  To the left are the Minotaur Pages along with
Angog the Champion.  There are much more difficult named minotaurs
out there but you do wanna put an end to this guy before he gets his
whole stride going since there's not a whole lot of maneuvering room
here.  To the right is Master Myy'dryl. Be CAREFUL when talking to
this guy. If you anger him he's going to attack and more than likely
wipe your entire party out without pausing for breath.  Tell him
that you're looking for a man named Dirge. He's going to get annoyed so
reply diplomatically.  Play along with what he says and agree to
the deal he offers and he'll give you the password for The Hall of
Strife...Roasted Halfling. Note it's optional to even talk to this
guy.  You can skip getting the password and just use your brute
force later if need be.

After the drow you're gonna move on down the hall some more and come to
the arena exterior.  Go up the left hand stair way and you'll find
a few href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=36">trolls
to kill. There's also a locked door with a chest inside.  You may
also want to note the sound effects in the background just for
fun.  Moving along the exterior of the arena you'll encounter
drunken spectators that want to fight you.  style="font-family: tahoma;"> href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album57&id=Von_1_Drow&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt="Drow Contact"

style="border: 2px solid ; width: 250px; height: 130px;" align="left">
style="font-family: tahoma;" size="-1">Taking the south exit you'll
find Urgol the Registrar.  If you got the password then give it to
him. If not kill his stooges and move on.

You'll eventually come to an intersection with a shut gate before you.
Go right fighting the Lurking Thugs and Lurking Brutes you come
across.  You'll find a party of Troll Enforcers along with
Enforcer Smashjaw which you'll need to dispatch.  By now you're
probably noticing that the groups of enemies in this quest are slightly
more numerous than normal.  Rarely do you see 2-3 enemies at a
time, it's more like 4-7. At the end of the right hand path is a table
with a key on it guarded by a few enemies.  Kill them and take the
key.  Go back the way you came and go down the left hand side now.
Keep moving left as you're looking for Ready Room 1.  It'll have
some Trolls Gladiators in it and the DM will even announce when you've
found it.  Butcher the trolls and use the shrine provided inside
the room.  Start casting href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=424">buffs
such as Resist Fire, Barkskin, Stone Skin, Blur, and anything else you
like to have. href="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album57&id=Von_1_Intersection&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php"> alt="Intersection"
src="http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/files/gallery/albums/album57/Von_1_Intersection.sized.jpg"
style="border: 2px solid ; width: 250px; height: 171px;" align="right">

Everyone speak to Gate Keeper Grotz at the same time and run up the
stairs.  You're gonna see to your right a barrier around an
axe.  Casters should go to the door immediately to it's right and
cast web and solid fog.  Do the same with the second one from the
axes left as well.  Kobolds will come from the left and Trolls
from the right. Kill the kobolds FAST.  They are all fully capable
of casting Hypnotic Pattern which is a sincere pain in large battles
like this.  A good Firewall on the door they come out of is a good
idea if you can manage.  After the kobolds Minotaurs are coming
out of the first door to the left and Air Mephits are coming out of the
second from the right.  The mephits are a slightly bigger threat
with their breath attacks.  After the second wave then all four
gates will open again and you get to take on all four teams in a big
ruckus. This fight can be a real pain if your party doesn't look out
for each other.  Try to fight away from the stairs so your healers
always can get line of sight to you easy for heals.  Whatever you
do try NOT to chase the enemies back into their separate rooms. Once
all of them are dead for each wave the gates will shut and you'll be
locked in there for a while.  Once all three waves are defeated
out comes Deadheart the Unbeaten and his trusty sidekick.  Both of
these enhanced trolls  regenerate really fast and Deadheart can
make you start dancing in addition to dealing out respectable damage
each hit.  All six party members should focus on one of them then
take out the other.  Casters beware Deadheart loves to squish
anyone casting magic at him in two to three swift hits.

After Deadheart and his sidekick bite the dust the barrier around the
axe is lifted.  Grab it quick and note it's basically the single
greatest weapon you'll ever see.  Don't grow attached but feel
free to drool.  Also as Grogan the Promoter and the rest of the
audience rush in to kill you at this time feel free to use the +5
Flaming Burst, Keen, Vorpal, Adamantine great axe you just picked up to
make really quick work of them.  Also note that in the room the
Mephits come out of there is a chest if you go up a ladder and over a
bridge.  To the right of the entrance Grogan just came through is
the exit you need however.  Take the key from Grogan's corpse and
use it to open the left door. Inside you'll find Dirge of Karrnath to
whom you must now give your super axe.  As soon as you do however
the quest is completed and you've taken the first step to the Red
Dragon! Make sure you talk to Malek to get Vault of Night 2. size="-1">
