If you haven’t already done so, you should read entry #1 below. This covers the very basic principals of the Trading Post that you must understand before you begin. Please also note that at the start of this tutorial, I had 3050 gold. I'm simply adhering to only spending 50 of that total amount to begin with and only then spending the profits earned from this diary. By the end of this diary series I should have 4000 gold (1000 gold profit being the target).

Things are going surprisingly smoothly at the moment. There’s a little delay in this third diary entry, only because it took a while for my buy orders to fill. I’m not exactly sure why. Whether it’s more people turning to flipping or just the items I attempted to buy this time around, they took a little longer than normal to appear in my inventory and then sell on. I should stress, that’s absolutely fine. Sometimes you’ll place Buy Orders and they’ll be met instantly. Sometimes it can take a full 24 hours period before they trickle in. This time around, I wanted to stick to just a couple of items that I was hoping would sell. I’ve found that there’s four staples I can always rely on:

  • Greatswords
  • Staffs
  • Bags
  • Orichalcum crafting goods

The main reason why these items always seem to sell, irrespective of the weapon or bag size, is simply because they’re needed by so many players. People use Greatswords and Staffs not only for their characters, but to also throw in the Mystic Forge. Bags are needed for everyone who doesn’t want to constantly run back to the vendor while Orichalcum crafting goods (such as Shield Backing or Boots) are used in most high level crafting. With these four items there also tends to be a healthy supply. This time around, with 77 gold in hand, I ended up buying the following:

  • 25 Orichalcum Boot Lining
  • 15 Mighty Iron Greatsword of Water
  • 5 Rampager’s Staff of Orgre Slaying
  • 20 10 Slot Iron Box

Having some money left over, I decided to pick up some Givers Noble Shoulderpads (20) that were offering too much profit to pass up (5s to buy, 17s to sell) as well as trying my hand at a couple of Mini’s. I ended up placing a variety of Buy Orders, but ended up only getting a Mini Fire Imp (11g buy, 17g sell).

When I woke this morning, I’ve managed to sell all the Iron Boxes, the Rampager staff’s, 11 of the Greatswords and all the Orichalcum Boots. If that wasn’t good enough, I’ve also sold the Mini Fire Imp, giving me a total of 17 gold profit. You might be thinking “well, that’s not much money!” and you’d be right. However, it’s about creating a snowball effect with your bank balance. I might have only got 17 gold profit, but I’ve still some items to sell and I’m now wielding almost 100g in capital to place Buy Orders. This gives me more weight to place Buy Orders in the hopes they’ll be filled, to turn a profit. If, after only spending around 60g, I can turn a profit of around 17-20g (when everything sells), it’s only going to multiply as my capital grows.

With how fast the Fire Imp sold, I’m actually tempted to take some risks with my new money and try to buy some more. It eats a big chunk of my gold, but the return is really good. If it doesn’t sell however, then we’re in a whole lot of trouble.

Only 950 gold to go, readers!
