The Pulse

First, you vote with what you view at Ten Ton Hammer, and the result is the Ten Ton Pulse. In an attempt to minimize the herky-jerkiness of this crazy week in MMOG news and entertainment, here are the weekly (rather than daily) rankings:

  1. World of Warcraft
  2. Warhammer Online
  3. EVE Online (UP 6)
  4. Age of Conan (down 1)
  5. Guild Wars (UP 11)
  6. Guild Wars 2 (UP 98!!)
  7. Star Wars: The Old Republic (down 3)
  8. Lord of the Rings Online (UP 5)
  9. Atlantica Online (UP 2)
  10. Tabula Rasa (down 2)

If the Top 10 isn't enough, we also show the Top 20 and Top 50 lists as well, available to everyone on our homepage. (What is Pulse?)

Daily Column

Loading... two expansions down, three to go in November 2008.

Last night, Ten Ton Hammer's Garrett Fuller and I were on site at the Times Square Best Buy in New York City for a huge event one commemorating the launch of World of Warcraft's second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. What made this event for us was our interactions with the fans in line, as recorded in this 10-minute WotLK event fans and fun video, since the dance contest seemed to be over before it started and a few other things didn't go quite according to plan.

For example, a production company was on-hand staging important moments like the first purchase, with the idea that if we filmed it early we wouldn't be in the way later, but on the fourth take you feel like the moment has passed. We found Pete, the lucky guy who started the line over 24 hours before, outside again without a copy of the expansion. He shrugged and said, "They told me to get back in line." Even more irksome was the "staging" that was preventing fans from coming in the door even five minutes after midnight, most of whom had been standing in the November chill for hours. But this is Broadway (or at least at 5th Ave and 44th street, which is pretty close to Broadway) and the show must go on.

Later in the evening, we chatted with Blizzard CEO and Founder Mike Morhaime, who had some upbeat comments about World of Warcraft's future and the future of the games industry in general. Check out our exclusive interview video with Mike Morhaime at WoW - Ten Ton Hammer. But if blood elf hotties and rabid fans strike your fancy more than executive types, we have a photo gallery from the launch event that is sure to please.

Also - and this is my last word on WotLK until at least, well, tomorrow - if you're playing the expansion, be sure to bookmark our World of Warcraft "Wrath of the Lich King" portal as you start your journey into Northrend.

Ten Ton Hammer premium members should sure to check out our latest offer to jump into the Fusion Fall closed beta. The offer will only be available for an extremely limited time and our closed beta keys will persist after the next weekend's sneak peek, so be sure to get your key now.

Ten Ton Hammer Epic Thread of the Day

Sometimes they're funny; sometimes they're foolish; sometimes they're flaming;
sometimes they're cool. Whatever this one happens to be, it's
our Epic Thread of the Day.

From our WAR: General Discussion Forum

Taea's Thread of Shame and Fame

all seen them. And maybe you're even the proud owner of a shameful (or
fame-ful) character name in Warhammer Online. Are you a shaman running
around with Loins, The Infected over your head? (Because, eeew. Just eeew.) Or maybe you've seen a dwarf with a name like Dunkers Poopsbig, The Fashionable. If you have a name like Omguronfirewtf, or you'd just like to shame someone with a name like that, then Taea has a thread for you.

Awesome Quote from the Epic Thread:

"What's weird about me is that I like either really original, RP-esque,
lore-fitting names, or complete, utter, game-breakingly stupid names.
Like, Chairfase or Toaster. I guess most of the names I find funny have
to do with things you'd find in a kitchen. I mean, who would commit to
staring at a character named Blendaaar for the entirety of their WAR
career? Now that's sacrifice for hilarity
