Bungie recently posted a job posting for a PC Compatibility tester and many think that Destiny is coming to PC, because of it, but I'm curious to if this is true or if maybe they're working on a new game all together - or perhaps, a game within the same Destiny universe, but designed as for the PC? We have a lot of questions to ask and no answers, which is all well and good in the world, but I do have some theories.

I agree the most likely case is Destiny is coming to PC. Bungie has held its console only grip for about a year now and releasing it to PC makes sense, but, I do have sort of a counter to that. Taken King isn't marketed to PC and the game is aging - yes yes, I know, Halo took awhile to come to PC too, but that's not the point. This is both a good and bad thing for Bungie. They'll lock in the expansion purchases on console, before pushing the PC version in front of everyone, while at the same time, this is a great chance to market the game while everyone is paying attention.

Now, I think it's a bit too obvious to assume that Destiny is coming to the PC from the posting. I think a more likely scenario is that the studio is working on something specifically for PC. Compatibility doesn't necessarily mean compatible from a port, but that it's compatible across the wide spectrum of hardware types for PCs. The job is actually rather fun. A PC compatibility tester takes survey data generated from a wide variety of sources spying on you because you failed to disable "send anonymous hardware data" and then compiles a list of video cards that are within the same spectrum of each other. Some chips can have 3 SKUs, so they figure out which cards to test on. Then, in a variety of system configs, amounts of RAM, and driver revisions, they run the game taking notes. Generally each tester is given a specific component of the game to test, like a level. It's basically the final form of a run of the mill QA tester.

It could be that they've ported Destiny over to PC and have begun testing it internally before announcing it. This would make sense if they're going to have a short ramp-up date to get the game out the door. It could also be that they've begun testing a new game and are not planning on announcing it. What could that game be? I don't know, a Destiny MOBA, Destiny Arena Shooter, or a new version of My Little Pony: Master Chef Pony Adventures.

I think a lot of fans though would be happy enough to have Destiny appear for sale in their Steam list. I would be kind of happy too. It's hard for me to use shooters with a gamepad and I want to state that it's a subjective thing, it's hard for me, but I know others enjoy it. I have friends who constantly want me to play Battlefield on the console, but it just doesn't work out for me.

Anyway, time will tell what Bungie is working on. For now, it's all pure speculation.
