Following a ve3d quote regarding DC Universe Online’s $14.99 US monthly subscription and the likelihood of microtransactions, fans have voiced some confusion about how exactly items available for real-currency purchase will affect DCUO’s balance and gameplay.

We caught up with the originator of the quote, SOE PR Specialist Ryan Peters, for some clarification, and as of now, it seems that microtransactions will go no further than costumes and character appearance.

Peters explained that SOE has “no plans” to make gameplay-affecting items available via microtransactions, noting that “as with all our games, the intent is never to create a gameplay imbalance with the item store.” James referenced costumes and other purely cosmetic “wearables” as the type of items players can buy with real-world currency.
