Howe recognizes that many of his Syfy viewers are gamers and is looking to merge the two forms of entertainment, starting with Trion Worlds' upcoming MMOG Defiance, which will run alongside a new Syfy television show with events in one influencing events in the other. It's a new approach to gaming and television, one that Howe hopes is just the starting catalyst for a much larger expansion.
This is a beginning of what we hope will be an aggressive expansion and we do truly believe that his is a ripe opportunity for Syfy to capitalize on and the right opportunity to really exploit the passion, the interest, the habits, and the entertainment consumption habits of our audience in a way that we’ve never been able to do in the past. We’re very excited about games and we see it as a big growth opportunity for us over the next five to 10 years.
Howe also recognizes the recent success of Bigpoint's Battlestar Galactica Online, noting that the game's popularity means that fans can look forward to new spin-offs for the franchise.
