Final Fantasy is one of the most popular game franchises of all time that has been running across all generations of consoles. As the power of the consoles has increased, so have the incredible scope of possibilities for the game’s developers. Known for being exceptionally large and involving role-playing games, the most recent offerings from the developers have been getting more in depth.

One of the most popular games of the entire franchise was the 1997 release for PlayStation, Final Fantasy VII. For many years now, fans of the series have been hoping that the game will be remade on the new-generation consoles and obviously have improved graphics and much more. The remake has been rumoured for a while, but was finally officially confirmed by the developers, Square Enix, at E32015, where they showed a teaser trailer (see below). So will the new game live up to the diehard fans’ expectations?

Story and characters

Firstly, the game director Tetsuya Nomura has said that the new game will not be a direct remake of the original. The storyline of the original game was brilliant, but fans of the series have also said that they hope to see more interwoven storylines with all the playable characters. The good news is that scenario writer Kazushige Nojimais has been working on fresh story content. Veteran players of the games will also be happy to hear that Nomura has confirmed that the original cast members have remained intact. There won’t be any newcomers that disrupt the chemistry of the old cast. This means players will once again be able to get involved with the fates of the hugely popular characters Cloud, Barrett, Cid and Tifa.

Mini games

Fans will be hoping that the developers address some of the issues that they had with the original game, such as weaker aspects to the mini games. Something that players of the original game found frustrating was the Gold Saucer casino. This casino was home to the slot machine called Wonder Catcher that had a terrible, hard-to-use design. People who enjoy these kinds of side games will be hoping that the remake will make this better, and that this feature is up to date with the kind of slot games available online nowadays. Online casinos now offer such a wide range of exciting games and all the slot machines at 32red for example, have absolutely stunning visuals and are fun to play. If little things like this can be spruced up and redesigned to suit what is current, it will make a world of difference. To make the game absolutely perfect it would be good for the developers to look to the likes of 32red and other online casinos for inspiration in this department.

In addition to the casino mentioned above, the original game had loads of other mini games. Along with these games remaining in the remake, gamers also want to see an online aspect incorporated. So players are hoping that they will be able to play these mini games in an online multiplayer environment. The game designers are said to be looking into this and if this idea comes to fruition it will add another modern aspect to the game. With nearly all games having considerable online features these days, it seems safe to say that the developers will put a lot of work into this area.

Graphics

Gamers can start getting excited about what has been promised to be a huge graphics overhaul, and the graphics on the actual game will far exceed what is shown on the trailer above. The developers have said that they will be changing the RPG to a much more realistic system, but this may be an area that infuriates the veteran gamers. A lot of fans of the game like it because it isn’t realistic. They like the fact that in this fantasy world anything can happen. Is it realistic for monsters to appear from the sky?

Gamers will have to be patient

It is still a long time until the game’s expected release date so fans will have to try and wait patiently. In the meantime, the original game will be coming to IOS so people can play it on their ipads. The remake of the game should definitely please the veteran players, because it is clear that the developers take into account all the feedback from the fans, and put a hell of a lot of effort into what they do.
