    Stratics recently had a chance to ask the Devs for EQ2 some questions. These questions focus on crafting and pvp...

    Recently, we had an opportunity to ask some very specific questions of the Developers on things related to PvP and Crafting. We took this opportunity to get "down and dirty" on some topics that have been buzzed about in the community, and frankly, I'm rather pleased with the responses! There is more insight to some of the things we as players perceive as issues, while the Developers see them as game-play effects and logical conclusions to an action.

  • Interview and a Screenshot!

    MMORPG.comcontinues their series of Q&A's with the fine folks at EQ2. This time Akil Hooper, the Design Supervisor for EverQuest II: Echoes of Faydwer answers a couple questions...

    MMORPG.com: What’s your favorite low level dungeon in the Echoes of Faydwer? What makes it special?

    Akil Hooper: I’d have to say Crushbone Keep is personal favorite low level dungeon in Echoes of Faydwer. The zone has a great layout, and can support quite a few groups. The zone looks great and is well laid out, with obvious targets for your group, and lots of nice places to get good gear for a lower level player. Crushbone was also one of the zones I had the fondest memories of from my EQ 1 days, and its great to see the zone revitalized with EQ II’s flair.

  • Scott Hartsman Talks About Change

    MMORPG.com: Since the launch of EQ2, there have been some major changes in the game that has affected greatly, one aspect of gameplay or other. How do you go about determining if a certain aspect of the game requires changing?

  • Jason "Dymus" Roberts, Lead Content Designer for EverQuest 2, Interviewed

    Have you ever wondered how content makes it into EverQuest 2? Do they REALLY sit around, and pull stuff from a hat? Jason "Dymus" Roberts is the Lead Content Designer for EverQuest 2 and is intimately involved in many changes made to the game. The job sounds scary, but this interview is well worth your time if you're interested in what goes on behind the scenes.

    RadarX: Can we expect to see more "Old Norrath" resurface, and are you looking for a balance of the new and the old?

    Jason "Dymus" Roberts: There is a lot to draw upon from "Old Norrath" and several stories that were never told, and a lot can happen in 500 years. So to answer the first part of the question, yes, you will certainly see more of the familiar Norrath resurface, though likely with some notable changes. The new zones, or new looks at old zones, give us something that is uniquely EverQuest 2 and a mix of the two seems to work well for us. It's fun to surprise players with something initially recognizable but slightly twisted over time to now be what it is.

  • Raiding as a lost art...

    In EverQuest II, they're called hard core, uber, or elite, but most of us just refer to them as raiders. Raiders are a special breed of players who exhibit skill, dedication, and motivation escaping the average player. Former raider Kiara, chats with a couple who raided and finds out the details on what raiding is all about.

    We all know that EQ2 was designed to be a little more friendly towards the casual gamer than EQ. There are a lot of people out there who are grateful for this particular development. I know I'm one of them. Coming from a hard core rading guild in EQ, and having done my time in a hard core raiding guild in EQ2, I rejoice in the more laid back family oriented guild that I'm currently torturing.

    Larry Elmore! If you don't know what Dragonlance is or you've never seen EverQuest cover art, you're going to be clueless. Fear not! We'll explain. Coyote, from our EQ2 - TenTonHammer team, interviews this legendary artist and manages to complete sentences despite being in total awe of him!

    I've met a number of “celebrities” or “famous” individuals in my life, and around everyone of them I was proud at my composure and nonchalant manner. With a practiced apathy and casual demeanor, I was the epitome of cool. However, when I met Larry Elmore at the SOE Fan Faire, I have to admit that I was more than a bit “star struck”.

    "It was an amazing experience to take part in. I was really pleased by how good of a fit it was, too."OGaming: Do you actually play the game now that it’s out and in the public eye?

    HG: Once in a while. And if I do, it’s under an anonymous character, the same way that anybody else would. That’s part of the fun: getting to not be yourself for at least a little while…

    Looks like she really tries to be nice about the whole gaming issue throughout the interview. SOE must still be paying her to do press.

    The EverQuest 2 Community Manager Ryan "Blackguard" Shwayder considers the legitimacy of Alternate Advancement (AAs), bards that actually play instruments (imagine that!), and some crafting questions in "Ask SOE #39" at EQ2 Vault.

    "Andrew "Tamat" Beegle: Will you guys be introducing AA's (Alternate Abilities) for the high-end players that grind to 60 and get bored out of their minds? Or at least something similar to that, enabling players to advance their characters past the max adventure level?
    Ryan "Blackguard" Shwayder: We’re absolutely looking into the kinds of things we can do for parallel or post-end game advancement. Adding new character powers is a tricky balancing act. We want to ensure that whatever we put out there is fun, rewarding, and powerful. At the same time, the trick is for us to do so in a way where we do not cause a stratified layer of “you must have all of your extra advancement, or you can no longer play the game,” as that then steers the entire direction of the game toward the hardest of the hardcore, which isn’t desirable for the other 97% of the people who play."
