EverQuest II

  • Next Gen Previews E3 SOE Lineup

Of SOE's MMO entries for this year's E3, Roman-themed Gods and Heroes was a given. Two relative surprises, however, are 2 - count 'em, 2 - new expansions for EverQuest II: the adventure pack "The Fallen Dynasty" and the fullscale expansion hearkening back to the original EverQuest continent of Faydwer: "Echoes of Faydwer".

t’s not all about the upper levels, though – Echoes of Faydwer is the next full-fledged expansion pack for EverQuest II and for a change, it features new content for all players regardless of level. There’re twenty new zones, forty new creatures, 350 quests, and a new playable race, the Fae. There’re new options for housing, new items to collect, more skills to learn – everything a good expansion pack needs to survive in this workaday world, but now it’s for everyone to enjoy right off the bat. It’s a nice way to entice new players, and with new places like castles rife with vampires and neat arboreal cities, there’s plenty for more these players to see.

  • Pay some attention to the men (and women) behind the curtain

Many players enjoy EverQuest 2, but who are the people that actually make it work? While my own "hamster" theory for the servers has been debunked, the names and faces of those who keep EverQuest 2 going deserve more attention. Savanja looks at a few of the busy workers of SOE and points out who actually nerfs us.

I happen to think that the developers of EQ2 are some of the coolest ever. They are witty, entertaining, and sometimes even informative. I confess to having favorite developers, (although Blackguard DID turn down my marriage proposal and technically isn't a developer) for various reasons.

These guys and gals work hard, at a rather thankless job, to bring us the entertainment that we so love and crave. While it's been said that they take our money (and roll around in it naked), doing very little actual work, I happen to know this isn't true. . The long hours and dedication that these people invest is astounding. And unlike most people, where the work ends with the end of the work day, a lot of these guys are found still at work, after hours, or at home, still online or in game, dealing with issues. Truly, most of the fanbase does not realize the kind of hours that they put into the game that we so adore.

  • Mawwiage. And wuv, true wuv.

Like baseball and Starbucks, marriage is an institution that is recognized throughout the world. What happens when art imitates life and people get married in game? Kiara dicusses why people tie the knot, and what impact is has.

Why am I thinking about marriage? Certainly not because I'm married or planning to get married anytime soon. Been there, done that, MADE the t-shirt. And yes, that is a slightly bitter aroma you're smelling right now. Don't get me wrong. Marriage can be a wonderful thing with the right person. There are a lot of ups and downs though. So, one has to ask, why on earth would you get married in a game? You get none of the benefits! Your virtual husband can't take out the trash, or cook outdoors, or kill the big, fist-sized, woman eating spider that just crawled across my wall. * shudders * Ugh. One moment while I find a shoe.

  • The venus flytrap grocery stores used to sell, times 10.

Included with the retail version of EverQuest 2's latest Kingdom of Sky expansion is a carniverous houseplant. Ever wonder what it does in your room when you aren't there? Our EQ2 site lead RadarX sleeps with herbicide on the night table, but Niami Denmother of EQ2 Traders takes a different approach. Join her, as she weaves another of her wonderful tales.

Niami DenMother ("Mum" to her friends) was, at heart, a very nice halfling, especially as far as redheads went. So, when the exceedingly strange gnome that had just moved in down the street asked for some plant-sitting help, she didn't slam the door in his face, comment on his shifty eyes, or his nervous giggle, or do any of her first dozen-ish impulses. "Business trip, eh? Why o' course I'd be happy tae watch this ... um ... plant frae ye, lad."

  • Who's got the EQ2 lovin? We do! This week's Town Crier is out and Ten Ton Hammer is featured.

Hark! Be that the Town Crier I spy? He brings us tidings from the far reaches of Norrath's influence. Be they dismal, strange, or otherwise? Let us observe as he waxes eloquent about current affairs.

    # The Town Crier wanted to learn more about adds, so we decided to take trip over to Aggro Me's math class. Once the Town Crier stopped in we caught Aggro Me conducting a siminar on what he's learned, be sure to read the note on his "Mad Skillz".
    # Meeting new people is always pleasureable for the Town Crier and we were fortunate enough to meet Calthine recently for her first article on Caster's Realm. The tradeskill expert gave great insight in her "Tradeskill Rare Event Guide".
    # In the far off land of IGN we're hearing words that new fiction is available. The Town Crier stopped in to see that Chapter VIII of The Forgotten by Shara is now available, so check it out!
    # The Town Crier tries to stay out of the Pirate vs. Ninja conversation but Ten Ton Hammer offers up some of their opinions in Slide's article "Pirates vs. Ninjas". If you happen to have a plant and need some Plant-Sitting then who better to ask than Niami? Be sure to check out Niami's latest mishaps in "Adventures in Plant-Sitting".If it's information that ye seek in the manuscripts then Ten Ton Hammer has you covered. In "The Bodacious Berserker Guide" you'll find a great deal of information to help you on your travels, the Town Crier is reading up on this and we suggest you do as well.

Want to see up close and personal what they're talking about? You are in luck! Go visit our EverQuest 2 Community to find the latest and greatest information on the game.

  • In EverQuest 2 forums, the name Raijinn is not to be uttered lightly.

Raijinn Thunderguard, SOE's EQ2 Community Relations Representative, can strike fear into the hearts of even the most bold of men, and can humble even the most righteous of posters. But what happens when those who are brave - or foolish- enough to summon him from the darkness in which he sleeps...succeed?

The soft droning of a wordless chant fills the dark lair, its blackness punctuated by the sting of the foul smelling incense that hangs lifelessly by dull grey strands.

Five robe clad figures stand in formation within the chalk outline of an archaic symbol, inverted to draw upon the powers of evil, their voices as one as they provide the droning chant that begins their foul ceremony. At the bastardized pinnacle of the crude ruin the lead figure, his head crowned in wicked looking horns, steps forward, his voice a mixture of gravel and malice.

Read about the "real Raijinn" in EQ2 - TenTonHammer's newest comedy piece from Coyote Sharptongue.

  • Busting out the Berserking!

Like to go crazy, get in the middle of crap and just whale on stuff? Get professional help. If you Want to be a real beserker, Savanja has put together a wonderful guide including tactics and updated spell lists.

The Berserker, the master of chaos, and the bringer of hurt. These hardened warriors thrive on madness and destruction. With heavy plate armor and menacing weapons, those unfortunate enough to be caught in their wake will cower before their obvious power.

With the choice of being good or evil, the berserker makes a great choice of class no matter where you wish to unleash your fury.

  • Pirates...Ninjas

We see the drama and hear the story behind it, but why are the superior pirates compared to ninjas on a regular basis? Slide takes a fun look at these two groups (in which the pirates are cooler) and weighs the pros and cons of each side (which of course the pirate side is better).

The interesting thing about the Pirate vs. Ninja debate is how widespread it is. It matters not where you go, be it down the street for a coffee or surfing across the web searching for 10 ways to make toast, there will be opinions about who would win in a fight or who is better overall. The unfortunate truth is that the Pirates vs. Ninjas discussion induces eye rolling almost as much as Chuck Norris facts for the simple fact that it's talked about in such tremendous quantities

Check out this fun article about how much better pirates are at EQ2 - TenTonHammer. No real interest in EverQuest 2, software piracy, or ninja looting required!

  • Raiding as a lost art...

In EverQuest II, they're called hard core, uber, or elite, but most of us just refer to them as raiders. Raiders are a special breed of players who exhibit skill, dedication, and motivation escaping the average player. Former raider Kiara, chats with a couple who raided and finds out the details on what raiding is all about.

We all know that EQ2 was designed to be a little more friendly towards the casual gamer than EQ. There are a lot of people out there who are grateful for this particular development. I know I'm one of them. Coming from a hard core rading guild in EQ, and having done my time in a hard core raiding guild in EQ2, I rejoice in the more laid back family oriented guild that I'm currently torturing.
