CCP CEO Talks About Lessons Learned and the Future of the EVE Universe

Posted Fri, Oct 21, 2011 by Martuk

CCP CEO Hilmar Pétursson recently sat down for a chat with Eurogamer to talk about the recent layoff and restructuring announcement at CCP to focus more on developing the EVE universe through EVE Online and DUST 514. Pétursson discussed his role in guiding CCP’s focus, which led to a lot of the controversy following the launch of Incarna and even explained that he had considered turning in his resignation.

I absolutely considered that but I think that frankly it would have been an easy way out. Being accountable for this type of situation, leading the company into this position, it's also my responsibility to lead us out of it.

Pétursson also discussed CCP’s interaction with the player-elected Council of Stellar Management and made a statement that could possibly lead to a bit more controversy when he indicated a possible restructuring of the player governmental body.

But some of my concerns right now relate to whether the CSM is maybe focused on a particular aspect of the game and I'm starting to get feedback from players that they worry the CSM is too pre-occupied by a certain playstyle. That might mean we may need to change the structure, but definitely the CSM has worked as a feedback tool greatly throughout the years. We will have them over at the end of the year, after everything that's gone on, and we will have a chance to talk about that. We'll just see where we are and take it from there.

CCP's other title, World of Darkness, will continue development at a slower pace and with a reduced development team.

The EVE Online community has already been discussing Pétursson’s comments. Tell us what you think below.
