  • Riding it all the way down, baby!

The Escapist recently published an interesting article called "Riding the Failure Cascade" which examines how a few individuals leaving a volunteer group will often spark a spiraling chain reaction that can destroy even the largest of organizations, with a look at EVE Online as an example.

  • "Look, here's what happened. Please don't hate us!"

CCP has posted an official response to the whole Boot.ini fiasco, where players who patched their EVE client right away were having a critical file on their computer deleted that would cause the system to not boot up once restarted.

  • The pen is mightier than the space-laser. Or something.

For those of you that really dug the last literary foray into the fictional world of EVE Online, here's the second part in the ongoing story.

Our own Abraxas penned chapter two of Leap of Faith, and can be found here on the page. The story continues to engage readers with a visceral tale of technomantic reincarnation, loss of empathy, and blatant disregard of critical ship systems. The Caldari Quest borders on madness!

  • Nothing funny to say here. Having your boot.ini nuked really sucks.

The latest EVE Online patch is reportedly breaking Windows-based computers by deleting the boot.ini file. For those that don't know, that's the file you need for Windows to start. CCP is currently in heavy damage control mode, and downloading the patch now shouldn't give you any problems, but the customers affected by this probably won't be able to start voicing their opinion of it (or even know what exactly happened) for a few days.

  • NYT meets CCG.

The mainstream media presence of MMOs continues to grow with this New York Times article about EVE Online.

Online games are different. Inhabited by thousands or even millions of players, online worlds are constantly evolving, and not merely because of the ever-changing cast of characters within them. For their customary fee of $15 a month, players of what are called massively multiplayer games expect developers to add new features and rebalance old ones constantly.
