  • Fanfest, Mergers and More

MMORPG.com has posted their report on the recent Fanfest in Iceland...

Seven-hundred people from roughly twenty countries descended on Reykjavik, Iceland to celebrate the third annual EVE Online Fanfest. Despite its size, CCP Games successfully created an intimate affair with developers mingling throughout the fans from the moment the doors opened to the wee hours of the morning. Icelanders know how to throw a party.

We were not just there for the expensive alcohol though. CCP brought in fans and press alike with the lure of information on their epic three part expansion formerly known as Kali. Now called Revelations, the first third of it hits the live servers on November 28th and promises to change and grow the game quite significantly.

  • Nathan "Oveur" Richardsson made the announcement during his "The Fifth Horsemen" presentation this afternoon in Reykjavik at EVE FanFest 2006 - CCP is aiming to release Revelations, aka Kali Release 1, on November 28th, 2006. If problems still exist, naturally they may remain in testing and push that date back, but at least now we have a moving target. Get your vacation or sick days at work lined up now, eh?

Even more exciting, CCP CEO Hilmar "Hellmar" Petursson announced that CCP Games and White Wolf Publishing, Inc. have made definitive plans to merge! White Wolf Prez Mike Tinney was on hand to comment and affirm the new arrangement at EVE FanFest 2006:

Reykjavik, Iceland and Atlanta, GA, USA – November 11, 2006 - CCP hf. and White Wolf Publishing, Inc. today announced that the companies have entered into a definitive agreement to merge. The creators of the single largest persistent online role-playing world and the world’s second-largest developer of offline role-playing, strategy and collectable card games will create the industry’s largest independent Virtual World developer. CCP is the publisher and developer of EVE Online, the world’s largest virtual gaming universe. White Wolf is the creator of some of the world’s most recognized role-playing titles including: World of Darkness (Vampire, Werewolf, Mage) and Exalted. The combined company will introduce new online and offline gaming products across the science-fiction, horror, and fantasy genres.

The merged company will enable CCP to integrate White Wolf’s leading expertise in offline gaming development to enhance and create physical products for its MMOG, EVE Online. Products to be introduced in 2007 will include strategy guides, enhanced collectable card games, role-playing systems, and novels all based on EVE Online. White Wolf will leverage CCP’s industry-leading technologies to bring its offline role-playing titles online. Conceptualization and early development has begun to bring White Wolf’s World of Darkness, one of the world’s strongest gaming properties, into the online world.

“White Wolf possesses the RPG industry’s leading offline gaming talent and some of the most recognizable roleplaying properties in the world,” said Hilmar Petursson, CCP’s Chief Executive Officer. " Virtual worlds are a new form of entertainment, separate from traditional computer games. By combining forces, we will create a company unsurpassed in quality, innovation, and scope which will keep us at the forefront of this emerging trend."

The combined company will continue to operate under their respective names. White Wolf will be operated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of CCP. Hilmar Petursson, Chief Executive Officer of CCP, will be CEO of the combined company. Mike Tinney, President of White Wolf, will continue as President of the independent subsidiary. Further, White Wolf will continue development and enhancement of their entire portfolio of gaming products.

“CCP brings industry-leading technical expertise and online game development experience to us,” said Mike Tinney, White Wolf’s President. "Together, we will create the industry’s most innovative games leveraging both online and offline systems."

  • A Look At Gang Tactics

What's more terrifying that seeing a pirate bearing down on your in low-sec? Seeing an organized gang of them, naturally... While Antithysis may be taking the the darker path, these tips and tactics can easily be applied to any EVE gang that you may need to form to accomplish the more difficult tasks and missions that the game has to offer.

Solo pirating can be fun, but sometimes that just isn’t enough to take down the tougher players out there. That’s where the gang comes into play. As they say, strength in numbers! ...These are just simple rules that every gang should follow to be successful. But to be a true force to be reckoned with, some creativity is required, as well as some pilots with a fair amount of Skillpoints.

  • New Guide Posted

EVE Online isn't just about flying circles around your target with guns ablazing... a lot of thought has to go into what equipment you fit to your ship to ensure success in combat, whether it's Player versus Player or Player versus Environment. Join Chris "Antithysis" Weidler, our resident scribe and avowed EVE Pirate (Yarrr!) as he describes some of the basics of what it takes, ship-wise, to survive in EVE combat.

Anyone who takes a month to train the skills can fly a battleship, but without combat experience, you will about as effective as someone who tries to stop a semi-truck with a roll of gauze (no offence Macgyver). Let’s take a look at how to fit a ship for any given task, and what types of ships/setups work better in different situations.

  • Exclusive Interview with Magnus Bergsson

Ten Ton Hammer gets some time with Magnus Bergsson, CCP's Chief Marketing Officer, to answer burning questions about the new Kali expansion to the game client, the merits of Cake versus Pie, and their successful entry into the Chinese market.

"One of the key things besides the full localization was to create Asian looking characters and to improve a bit on their looks. Besides that we have not done anything else as we want to maintain a one set of code for the game to lessen the chance of any technical problems."
