  • Durk's Got a Secret Quest Guide

In the early days of Dungeons & Dragons Online, every low level party wanted to run Durk's. The quest gave enough reward to make up for the challenge. And most importantly, someone would get to loot Muckbane. Thankfully, Turbine changed the spawn on Muck to be random and the rate of drop on Muckbane to be random. But to this day, Ralsu remembers his experience on the quest--and looting Muckbane!

"All of the oozes you encounter warrant toting a set of wooden weapons into the dungeons. If you can find the random spawn Muck and kill it, you might be lucky enough to loot Muckbane, a rare weapon that specializes in killing oozes."

Head over and check out the rest of this guide! Have you played this quest? Tell us about it in the Ten Ton Hammer Forums today. Don't forget to check out all the other excellent guides at our DDO Ten Ton Hammer Community Site.

  • SOE Shake Up

With the departure of two key EverQuest 2 development staff, the question still remains how this will impact the community. Rumors too numerous to count surround this issue, but RadarX discusses what we know, and what we don't.

Recently, Game Designer Steve "Moorgard" Danuser announced he was leaving SOE to pursue other interests. This was on the heels of Community Manager, Ryan "Blackguard" Shwayder also leaving. Since it doesn’t involve EverQuest 2 directly, we’ll ignore the departure of Chris Kramer, Senior Director of Communications. Conspiracy theories abound, but how much truth is there to the rumors?

  • A reader, let's call her Anjelina Jolie for lack of a better name, wrote me yesterday and asked me what I thought of a story about games journalism that she had discovered on Slashdot.com. The article links to another article that in turn acted as a catalyst for yet more articles all boiling down like sap from a maple tree to create a sugary sweet mouthful on the subject of what it takes to become a games journalist. The original piece of prose, the maple tree in this case so to speak, appeared on Game Career Guide, and was aptly titled So You Want To Be A Games Journalist. Click, read, learn nothing you didn't already know.
Now that you have read that drivel, go read as many of these as your boss will allow before banging on your desk and asking, "What the name of all that is holy it is that you think you are being paid for?"
Humorous journalism, Vanguard beta keys, Burning Crusade previews, Mel Gibson, Boy George and much more is but a click away.

  • Where Have All The Good Men Gone?

Pick-up groups are one of those necessary evils in MMO gaming, but are they all that bad? Guest star Brokain, takes a look at gaming with pick-up groups in his desperate quest for experience.

You've gotten to a point where soloing just isn't cutting it. You'd like to hit lvl 70 before your grandkids graduate college while schooling you at EQ2000. So, with no guildies or friends online, you decide to get into a PuG. Here is the first part of why some people dislike PuG's. The idea of grouping with people you don't know can be daunting. Now, meeting people is part of an MMO, so why does this make people wary? I like to call it the "Random Idiot" factor.

  • With the exception of this column the exclusive articles, content and op/eds on the network are well written, informative pieces fashioned to appeal to not only new MMOG players, but also veterans of the massively multiplayer trenches. Once in a while our team delivers an article that is received so well that it takes on a life of its own.
The first article that garnered attention above and beyond the norm was SOGA: Bridging EverQuest 2's "Uncanny Valley". Until I read Jeff Woleslagle's illuminating article I thought that the "uncanny valley" was a non-recycle zone at the local dump. Imagine my surprise when I found out that EQ2 wasn't an emotional junkyard, but was in fact a blue box. Colour me embarrassed.
Recently, and by recently I mean not-so-long-ago, Karen "Shayalyn" Hertzberg tapped out a little ditty called Inside the Vision, an article about Vanguard: Saga of Heroes and the impressions she collected from playing in the beta.
More uncanny things, an ancient virus, good men in EQ2 and much more is but a click away.

  • Defensive Assault Dwarf

With the recent release of Module 3, Dungeons & Dragons Online (DDO) has a new level cap of 12. Nuitaran already knows how his fighter will progress through the new levels--and beyond!

"Plan for the future. The last Feat selection of Power Attack may seem out of place, but it is in place for the future. Should the game ever progress to epic levels, Feats such as Overwhelming Critical and Devastating Critical will require Power Attack, Cleave, and possibly Great Cleave. Might as well start planning for the future now!"

  • Inside the Vision: A Hands-On Preview of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes

During a press event hosted by Sigil and Sony Online Entertainment, Shayalyn had an opportunity to engage in a gaming session in the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes beta. As it turns out, she was the Vanguard veteran in a room full of newbie reporters, having been a beta player already for months. Check out her hands-on preview for an exclusive look at Vanguard past, present, and future.

"Will Vanguard be able to deliver challenge, immersion, depth and fun in a package that will have mass appeal? I’ve been spending some time in Vanguard’s world of Telon, playing the game and getting a feel for where it’s been, where it is now, and where it’s going. I don’t know if anyone can answer the question of whether Vanguard will succeed in reaching a broader target audience, but I do have some new insight. I’ve been in beta for a few months--long enough to see some sights, and long enough to watch the game evolve. But let’s begin at the beginning. Let me start by telling you what you'll experience in Vanguard once you get there."

Get clicking to read more! You can share your thoughts on all things Vanguard in our Ten Ton Hammer Forums or get all the latest at our Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer Community site.
