  • Interview - QforQ of Vanguard Radio

One of the newest kids on the Vanguard fansite block is Vanguard Radio, which officially launched last week with a 6 hour on-air celebration. I took some time to talk to the owner of Vanguard Radio, Sam "QforQ" Houston, to get to know him a bit better and talk about his plans for the site, and what he hopes Vanguard Radio will bring to the community.

[QforQ]: Over the coming months Vanguard Radio plans to ramp up our DJ list and have a Live DJ online as often as possible. Along with this we take live requests and dedications, just like a real radio station! We're also planning on having several competitions in the future that will involve prizes like a whole hour of your favorite music that you requested.

  • The Best Interview Ever: An Interview with EQNews's Ever

If you played EQ1, you might be familiar with EQNews, the informative site that kept us all in the loop about all things EverQuest. Ever has made his way over to EQ2, and we sat down with this avid fan of the game to get his thoughts on things.

RadarX: First, thanks for taking time away from EQ2 to do this. It's always good to start at the beginning, so how did you get into MMO's?

Ever: I started with EverQuest before EQ2 . . about five years ago on Xegony (known as Ever)Possibly a bit longer, its been so long though. Other than EQ1, EQ2 .. there hasn't been much MMO-age here.

More is just a click away! Let us know your thoughts in our Ten Ton Hammer Forums today.

Before Module 3 came out [for Dungeons & Dragons Online], you had two pretty cool interviews with Turbine. You promised us something else to come before launch but I never saw anything outside of your normal stories. Those [exclusive] screen shots weren't it, were they?"

  • I know many of you spent yesterday waist deep in turkey drippings and stuffing. You probably weren't able to schlock your way to every gaming store in the city to see if they had even one PS3 left.
Well... I found the solution to your oh, so serious problem. Accept Jesus Christ as Your Lord and Savior and Get a Free PlayStation 3!

  • What better time for a Canadian to express a year of MMOG thankfulness than during the American thanksgiving?
I'm thankful that the most valuable players in the NBA, NHL and MLB are all Canadians. (Nash, Thornton, Morneau) We walk among you. We look just like you, but we hit for .321.
I'm thankful that the new generation of consoles have all been released with integrated Internet connectivity. Maybe someday soon there will be a MMOG that blurs the barrier between PC and console allowing the violence we see in Asia to spill over to Jack Thompson's lawn giving him something to genuinely complain about. Final Fantasy XI you don't count, though you gave it a good try. The console market is simply enormous and blending it into the MMOG market would give already booming genre an extra boost.
More thanks, beer on planes, Muslims on planes, robotic planes and more is but a click away.

  • New Dev Diary - Update 3:Warmonger Equipment and Outpost Changes

The folks at Net Devil tell us about how player feedback influenced recent changes to Update 3, plus offer some exciting news about a new Battlemaster weapons set: the Warmonger. Update 3 went to the Test Server on November 10th, so the patch should be out soon. In the meantime, check out Net Devil's latest Dev Diary!

"The development and implementation of the Outpost Token system taught us many things, not the least of which is the lesson of unplanned results. Whenever you design large systems, you never really know what the players are going to do with them. No amount of theorizing in the office can predict everything that will happen once a system goes live…and that is one of the great things about online worlds, though it can also be one of the great frustrations as well."

  • The WoW Effect - Homogeny, Hegemony and the Horde

John "AgonThalia" Sherman, form LotroSource.com weigh in on our editorial topic for the week.

It goes without saying that The World of Warcraft is a success. In fact, it's such a success that its radical design has not only revolutionized the way MMO's are played, it's influencing the way MMO's are being designed. Compared to the other MMO's on the market, WoW is the 800lb. troll in the room and the debate has shifted from "how successful is WoW going to be?" to "which of the new MMO's are going to be the WoW killer"? Taking a step back and examining the history of WoW as it compares with other marketplace juggernauts can reveal some interesting parallels with its rise and eventual fall. Turbine has released their new MMO, The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar to a select group of beta testers, who as they explore the world of Middle Earth, are providing valuable input to Turbine. Will LotRO be the WoW killer? From the information that we have now, can we make any predictions? Turbine has the opportunity to combine their proven track record in making good MMO's with an intellectual property that has sparked the imaginations of people for over 60 years. The big question, as it applies to LotRO, is: "With such a golden IP in their hands, will Turbine conform to the success of WoW or will they take a risk and innovate"?
