  • Presenting The Cookie Cutter Bard

As Drow Week continues at DDO Ten Ton Hammer, we take a look at how to craft the quintessential bard--and of course we start by selecting drow for the race! This bard represents a balance of combat, healing, and casting abilities.

"I've already brought you very specialized DDO builds for bards who do crowd control, melee, and healing. Those builds do one thing exceedingly well at the expense of all others, but the Cookie Cutter Bard (CCB) does all of things decently at the expense of doing any of them masterfully. The CCB can fight, heal, and stop throngs of monsters with his spells."

Learn more about this Bard and more at DDO Ten Ton Hammer.

Thanks to Smallthreat of the Bronzebeard server (World of Warcraft) for sending me in a screenshot that I could use in one of our comics. As a person who spends as much time wishing I didn't have to travel as actually travelling I've always wondered what customs would be like in Azeroth.

  • Holy Blue Names, Batman!

It's the Blue Names (aka - developers)! Or rather, it's one important Blue Name in particular: Aradune Mithara. Those who are intimately involved with the Vanguard community know Aradune as Brad McQuaid, CEO of Sigil Games Online and Executive Producer of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. While the community is poised on the next phase of the game's beta testing, dubbed Beta 3, McQuaid took some time to answer questions on the official Vanguard forums (OVF). When might Beta 3 begin and when should you start haunting your inbox for an invite? Forget the dev tracker--read our compilation of the most recent McQuaid posts to find out.

"The big question on everyone's mind is, of course: when is Beta 3 going to begin? Fans were told that they should expect the next phase of beta to begin by the end of July. If you've checked your calendar, you'll see that the July date simply isn't going to happen."

Keep reading to learn more. If you're camping your inbox for your beta invite, take a minute to head over to Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer and tell us about it in the forums!

E3 is new and improved. Welcome to E4! The ESA has made their announcement. E3 isn't getting older, it's getting better! You can read the official word, or you can carry on down this page and read my take on it.
See, I told you it wouldn't be so bad. It didn't hurt a bit.

"To better address the needs of today's global computer and video game industry, the 2007 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3Expo) is evolving into a more intimate event focused on targeted, personalized meetings and activities, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced today."

By "intimate" the ESA means smaller. By "focused" the ESA means smaller. "Targeted", smaller. "Personalized", for the learning imparied, smaller. Star Jones, I know you read this column, it means smaller. In other words, E3 2007, heretoforeaftermentioned as E4 will be a smaller event without the rabble rousing of previous events. There you have it.
How will this affect the industry? It won't. Remember, you read it here first and not on one of those other sites who threw around headlines like "E3 Cancelled". Just think of E3 as an event on a diet. Of course the first three letters of diet spell die, but that little tidbit of trivia aside let's just consider E3 the Anna Nicole Smith of events. Next thing you know it will be cuddling up to CES, SIGGRAPH or maybe even ComicCon screaming, "Trimspa Baby" because well, it's on a diet.

  • A Guide to Drow Favor

Does the new drow race in Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach (DDO) sound great to you? With their powerful racial traits, drow are latest rage in Stormreach and you want in. But how do you unlock the blasted things? That's where Ralsu's Guide to Drow Favor comes into the picture!

"When a player has reached 400 total favor from any of the 7 factions on a single character, he gets a letter notifying him of his achievement. He can then unlock the drow. Additionally, he can unlock a 6th character slot. Many players are not aware of this and destroy a character needlessly to make room for a new drow toon. Finally, the drow and extra slot only open up for those servers on which a player has a character with 400 total faction."

Learn more about how to unlock and play a Drow. Have you unlocked this newest race in DDO? Head over to the forums at DDO Ten Ton Hammer and let us know.

  • To Follow the Lore or Not to Follow the Lore...That is the Question...

When it comes to lore in MMOs, Medeor pretends to like it, he really does. After all, it took someone (actually a team of someones) a long time to conceive of and write that backstory and those carefully planned quest lines delivered by the NPCs. And yet, Medeor admits to skipping all that skillfully crafted text and clicking the "Next" button with fervor, the faster to get on with his quest for phat lewtz. How do you feel about the lore in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes? Are you eagerly snapping up every pre-release scrap, or eager to click the metaphorical "Next" button?

"When I start a game, I pretend to enjoy the lore. I show the typical desire to understand and care about how the races evolve and how city centers rise out of hulking ruins, or trees become a wondrous village. But in the long run, I end up wanting to know who I need to whack to get good loot."

Click this next button to find out more. Are you like Medeor? Do you skip over the lore for the loot or do you this this is an outrage? Let us know in the forums at Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer!

  • What Makes A Good Game

Okay, so it isn't really about Kiara's summer vacation. Mainly, because she doesn't have one anymore. Instead, it's all about what she thinks makes a game, and EQ2 in particular, great.

So. I was sitting around talking to some friends the other day. Or rather, they were talking and I was working, because I'm a good girl and don't talk shop while I am supposed to be doing my day job! * adjusts her halo * Discussion turned towards games, as it inevitably does when you get a bunch of us geeks together (although, I use the term loosely with regards to myself, because let's face it, I'm an inferior geek... But I'm cute so it's okay!).

Is being cute enough?Keep reading and find out! Let us know what you think makes a good game in the forums at EQ2 Ten Ton Hammer.
