  • Gnolls vs Orcs: The Epic Battle

A struggle on a epic scale, the battle between the Orcs and the Gnolls. Who would win? The answer will suprise you (or not once you realize Coyote wrote this). Take a look at the hard hitting facts, as Coyote enlightens you on the strengths and weaknesses of these two races.

Generic bad guys are hard to come by now a days. In a world of EverQuest II, where the good guys and the bad guys can be actual players, the role of "mass produced common enemy that you can whack the snot out of regardless of your chosen alignment" blurs and shifts as each race tries to claw its way to the top.

  • A Troubadour's Existential Journey

Did you miss the SOE block party last weekend, like I did? Fortunately, that didn't stop Ten Ton Hammer from getting someone inside. What happened, and why should you have gone? Look inside to find out!

I was greeted warmly and invited to enter. I grabbed the seat right behind the driver. Less than a minute later, one of the brave employees of the company sat down next to me as we set off toward our goal.

So while the bus driver bravely tackled the perils of gnarled convention area traffic and pedestrian waves to then speed along the highway, I got the pleasure of speaking to the lovely though sun beaten Vanessa. Vanessa is part of the EQ2 Community Relations group and deals specifically with the French speaking countries currently playing the game. She has the most fabulous accent.

Find out more about Gloria's adventures at the SOE block party. Did you attend this event? Head to the forums at EQ2 Ten Ton Hammer and let us know about your adventures!

  • Casting on the Fly: Guide to Metamagic Feats

The arcane master knows that mere spells alone will not solve all of the problems in Stormreach. It takes careful planning and judicious use of Metamagic Feats to maximize the effectiveness of spells in Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach (DDO). And tabletop gamers beware: Metamagic Feats work differently in DDO. Darkgolem has the scoop.

"Empower Spell causes ½ more damage but costs twice as many spell points than normal. Useful, but mainly meant for situations when an opponent heals quickly, or when something absolutely must die right now. I recommend getting Maximize Spell first if you want this option."

Keep reading to learn more! Do you play a caster? Head to the forums at DDO Ten Ton Hammer and let us know what works for you.

  • When was the last time someone gave you 14 days of something free? Yeah, yeah, besides AOL? The answer my friend, is blowing in the solar wind. The team at CCP, the developers of EVE Online are offering all of our readers a 14-day free trial of the game. It's the only MMOG that I know of where you can hold down a job transporting strippers to their next job. Don't keep the strippers waiting, get your 14-Day FREE Trial!
    One of our readers who goes by the super-secret codename of "Sharon" sent in this first impression of EVE Online;

"That lady computer trainer told me to right click on everything to make it work, but no matter how many times I right click that naked hologram for the Gallente pleasure center it does nothing! =P"

Strippers and pleasure centers, what could go wrong? In a game where your social status is measured by the size of your ship I'd say nothing, nothing at all. Think of it like the Las Vegas of MMOGs. What happens in EVE Online stays in EVE Online.
Tabula Rasa beta slots, $500, eight exclusive new MMOG articles and much more is but a click away.

  • The Ten Ton Hammer "Dead of Summer" Contest Begins!
It's an extremely hot summer, so what could be cooler than a network-wide contest for some great prizes? We have prints signed by developers, beta slots for Tabula Rasa and Pirates of the Burning Sea, cool peripherals from the makers of Zboard, expansion pre-orders, and stacks of gamecards to give to some lucky winners! So how do you get in on this?
We want to see your character (wait for it) dead. Or moments from death. In funny, ironic, or just plain out-of-the-ordinary ways!
It's the Ten Ton Hammer "Dead of Summer" contest, and we die often enough to know that while it's painful and frustrating at the moment, the circumstances leading up to an untimely dirt nap are often hilarious afterward. Maybe auto-running while flirting with the cute night-elf drove you to do a Wile E. Coyote off a cliff face. Maybe your halfling drowned in a puddle while you were afk. After an hour of careful planning, did the raid boss take down the entire raid in less than two seconds? Some of your guilds most have hundreds of those Jenkinsian-aftermath pics in the archives.
Whatever you got of you getting yours, send it in! Brief captions welcome too.

For details on how to enter and complete contest details, please visit the Ten Ton Hammer "Dead of Summer" contest page.
We can't wait to see what you come up with!

  • The Ten Ton Hammer "Dead of Summer" Contest Begins!

With prizes including several great Zboard products, beta slots for upcoming MMOs like Tabula Rasa and Pirates of the Burning Sea, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade pre-orders, skads of gamecards, and autographed prints from Tabula Rasa master developers Richard "Lord British" Garriott and Starr Long, the Ten Ton Hammer "Dead of Summer" contest prize list has something for every kind of MMO gamer!

How to win? It's the dead of summer, and we want to see screenshots of your death or moments-from-death scenes in your favorite MMORPGs. The more we make that laugh and groan in empathy, the better your chances to win! So your World of Warcraft 40-man raid turned into a 40-man wipe in Naxxramas? Aviaks turned you into birdseed in EverQuest 2's Kingdom of Sky? The Warforged Titan end your party in Dungeons and Dragons Online? Rats eat your EVE Online Ship? I could go on, but you get the idea.

Take an amusing, macabre, or otherwise out-of-the-ordinary post-mortem picture from any of eight popular MMORPG, write a brief caption for the screenshot, and follow the directions on our contest page to send it in. Enter as many times as you like, but Ten Ton Hammer isn't responsible for the experience debt, armor repair cost, or the guildchat flaming you get if you do this on raid time! We urge you to die responsibly; let it happen naturally! And when death does happen, snap a pic, share it with us, and win over $600 worth of great prizes!

Special thanks to contest sponsors: Ideazon, Inc. (makers of Zboard peripherals), NCSoft, Flying Lab Software , and Ten Ton Hammer.

For a complete prize list and contest details and rules, please go to our "Dead of Summer" contest page! Submit your swansong screenshots today for your chance to win! Contest ends August 2nd, 2006.

  • Rouge AND Wizard?

Anyone who's played Dungeons & Dragons has encountered (if not played!) a rogue/wizard combo. As we continue Week of the Arcane Master here at Ten Ton Hammer, Darkgolem thinks it is high time we applied the build to Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach. So, sharpen your blades and your wits--this build requires both!

"Scouting, dealing with traps and locks, buffing, diplomacy, and other areas are the things that the Arcane Ally brings to a party."

Read this full article to see how this unique class combo shapes up. Have you played a rogue/wizard? Let us know how it worked for you in the forums at DDO Ten Ton Hammer.

  • Loading... is brought to you today by EVE Online!

Your 14-Day FREE Trial is only a click away. Fancy spaceships warping all over the universe blowing up your enemies in heated PvP battles or in my case mining that wondrous and jaw dropping beauty it into teeny, tiny bits that I haul around in an ugly ship. All the cool kids are doing it. Give it a try and support our sponsor! I mean it, click on that pretty link, give them an e-mail address and try the game for 14 days. I'd like to hear your impression of EVE Online. The best quotes will be featured here.
"No plan survives first contact with the enemy." is a favourite saying of our resident pessimist and "bah"sayer Phil Comeau. Vacation plans are no different. I had planned to watch my kids at soccer camp, fish and get a few things done around the house. In reality I helped teach a soccer camp and did my best impression of a handyman fixing 4,291 things around the house and property. Note that I am as equipped to fix things as a snake is to win a handshaking contest. Nonetheless vacation is over and I'm back. I didn't get to go fishing very often, though Phil dropped by on the weekend to float around the lake for a couple of hours. I did get to amaze the local kids with my tomfoolery and gadgetry slight of hand.
Gadgets, $500 in prizes and so much more is but a click away.
