There are megabucks to be made in e-Sports. It is a worldwide phenomenon which is only going to continue to grow in size.

Last year, more than 40,000 fans flocked to Seoul’s World Cup stadium to watch the League of Legends World Championship. That is nearly three times as many people who recently saw tennis betting favourite Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final.

With a growing fanbase, it is little wonder that these gamers are earning some serious coin.

In total, there have been more than 100 gamers to have made over $100,000 in prize money. This is only the tip of the iceberg. Most of these gamers also pick up sizeable cheques in sponsorship and further income from streaming their practice games on services such as Twitch.

Below are the three most financially successful e-Sports gamers currently plying their trade.

Wang “Banana” Jiao - $1,200,192.39

Banana has not had the best of years by his standards, having failed to win any tournaments thus far. This is a far cry from his form in 2014 where he won five of the seven tournaments he entered. He is currently at Newbee with whom he hopes to return to winning ways in the not too distant future.

Zhang “xiao8” Ning - $1,219,892.02

Playing out of LGD Gaming, xiao8 has been pulverizing the gaming world since turning professional in 2010. Over the years, he has moved teams in deals reported to be worth upwards of $100,000, telling you all you need to know about his precocious talent. This year has been littered with success for xiao8 with victories at the G-League 2015, i-league Season 3, and the MarsTV 2015 Chinese League. His celebrity status in China has even landed him on dating shows in his homeland.

Chen “Hao” Zhihao - $1,249,642.81

The Vici Gaming starlet is the most successful player in e-Sports having amassed total earnings of nearly $1.25 million. Widely regarded as one of the most aggressive players in the industry, General Hao has won on numerous occasions. In 2015, he won both the VPGame Pro League and the Star Ladder Star Series Season 12 as well as finishing second in the Dota 2 Champions League and the i-league season 3.
