Unfair Change or
Overdue Fix?

By Dalmarus

style="font-style: italic;">March 14th, 2008

Last
week we took a
look at the use of voice communication by players in Vanguard:
Saga of Heroes. This week's poll revolves around a particularly heated
forum topic in relation to a recent change from Game Update #4. If you
don't understand a term
or abbreviation I use here, please check our href="http://vanguard.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&file=index&func=display&ceid=135&meid=109">Game
Terms 101.

Some topics are so hot an item they just can't be ignored, no
matter which side of the fence you're sitting on. Such is the case with
a thread called, " href="http://forums.station.sony.com/vg/posts/list.m?&topic_id=28986">Death
of Group 4? Shame on you SOE!" over on the official
forums. Not only has the topic garnered 19 pages worth of posts in less
than 48 hours, but I've also been PM'ed about it by the Ten Ton Hammer
forum community. If these two things don't answer the, "What should
this week's poll be about?" question that I ask myself each week, then
I don't know what does.

The basic idea surrounding the topic seems to be a change to the
looting rules of the Ancient Port Warehouse. As it stood before, a 4th
group of 6 could follow an 18 player group to a boss and be eligible
for loot off of said boss mob. With the introduction of Game Update #4,
this ability has been removed. If you are not one of the 18 people
engaging a target within the Ancient Port Warehouse, you will not be
able to loot anything off of that target.

There seems to be two general camps of thought - Those that think this
is a change/fix long overdue, and those that feel this is unfair to all
players. There are obviously a number of people in the middle as well.
So...

Was It Fair To Remove the Looting Rights of the 4th Group?

Absolutely - 18-man raid means 18 players, not 24

If an encounter is designed for 18 people, then there should only be 18
people there. Anything else should be considered exploiting the system,
if not actually being considering as an exploit itself. Whether you're
a raider or not, if you believe 18 players means 18 players, then this
choice is for you.

No - It's been in the game so long, it should be allowed to
remain

A rather large number of players have stated they think it is an
exploited system, but it's been in the game for so long now that it
should have remained there. Players and their guilds have built their
raiding rules and concepts around this strategy, so removing it this
late in the game does nothing more than hurt the players.

No - The raid content was originally tested for 24 players,
not 18

There is an argument within the thread that revolves around the Ancient
Port Warehouse originally being designed for 24 players rather than 18
and that's why the raid window is set to handle 24 players. The
performance restraints are the reason the encounters were limited to 18
players, not because of the original intent. As such, the 4th group of
a raid should still have loot rights.

Eh - It makes no difference to me since I'm not a raider

This choice is for those players that really don't care either way. You
don't raid and you don't ever plan on raiding.

Now it's your turn
to let us know what you think!
