Overview

Tangled Depths is the third zone in the Maguuma Jungle and I'd argue is the most confusing. When you first arrive there's actually very little on the surface because the vast majority of it is underground and leads you off into various confusing directions. The image of the map below might look a little jumbled when it comes to the location numbers, but that's because I've tried to number it in the order that you'll likely reach the Hero Points. In Tangled Depths you sort of head down, left, right and back around clock-wise. You'll require the following Masteries to obtain all the Hero Points:

1. Basic Gliding

2. Mushroom Jumping

3. Updraft

4. Itzel Poison Lore.

1. Troll Runestone Hero Point (South of Orders of Whispers Waypoint)

Mastery Required: None

Difficulty: 2+ as it spawns a Champion Cave Troll

Head towards the cliff edge and drop down to the floor below

mm

Directions: You need to move south from the Orders of Whispers Waypoint and down towards the floor below. Once you reach the lowest level you'll see a stair icon that you need to move towards (you'll likely have to turn around). Once you have, you'll be able to go back on yourself, up a small incline and on your right is the Troll tunnel.

2. Gilded River Hero Point (West of The Great Tree)

Mastery Required: Basic Gliding and Updraft.

Difficulty: Soloable.

Head up the cliff edge and jump from the plant onto the tree opposite (as indicated by the circle).

Head up the tree and leap off the end, catching an Updraft. You need to then ping pong (right and left) through the Updrafts to reach the Hero Point. Start with the Updraft on your right, then turn left and right again.

Directions: Once again from Orders of Whispers Waypoint, this requires you to head east up a nearby tree. Once you've climed it, look right and you'll see a stubby palm tree and a ledge. Hop onto the palm tree and glide over to the ledge. Face left and run up the tree. Jump off and you'll be carried by an updraft into the sky. Follow the updrafts all the way to the Hero Point. If you miss one, you'll have to run back around.

3. Egg Clutch Hero Point (East of Dragon's Passage Waypoint or West of Leyline Confluence Waypoint)

Mastery Required: None

Difficulty: 2+ but 3 preferred (for speed).

Be sure to bring a friend, the Champion Chak Blitzer hits very hard

Directions: There are two options here. You can follow the path directly from Dragon's Passage Waypoint or you can follow the path West from Leyline Confluence Waypoint. Both take roughly the same amount of time. Just be sure to avoid as many enemies as possible as this area is full of them.

4. Nightthistle Bloom Hero Point (Dragon’s Passage)

Mastery Required: Bouncing Mushrooms or Updraft Gliding

Difficulty: 2+ but 3 preferred for ease and speed.

Follow the left path if you don't have Updraft

Directions: An incredibly easy Hero Point to find. From Dragon's Passage Waypoint just follow the path and take your first left turn. It'll lead you up one level higher and when you reach the top, there's a bridge on your right. Use the Updraft infront of it to land on the Hero Point. If you don't have Updraft, use the mushroom to the left to bounce up to it instead.

5. Jellyfish Grotto Hero Point (North of Deeproot Sink)

Mastery Required: Bouncing Mushroms or Updraft Gliding as well as Exalted Markings to be able to interact with the light beacon to prevent Pirahna eating you.

Difficulty: Soloable.

Directions: Another easy Hero Point to obtain and one that you can get immediately after Nightthistle. In the distance from the Hero Point, facing north, you need to make your way across the platforms. On the furthest point, you'll see an Updraft. Jump and glide towards it and drop into the water below. Swim to the bottom and interact with the Exalted Beacon. Once you have, just follow the tunnel to the Hero Point. Easy.

6. Chak Hatchery Hero Point (Chak Stronghold, North of Ley-Line Confluence Waypoint)

Mastery Required: Bouncing Mushrooms, Updraft, Exalted Markings, Itzel Poison Lore and/or Nuoch Wallows.

Difficulty: Soloable (2+ preferred for ease due to surrounding Chak)

Direction: You've two options here. You can follow the underwater tunnel right to the end where you unlocked Hero Point 5 or you can run north from Ley-Line Confluence Waypoint. Whichever path you choose, you have to have Itzel Poison Lore or you'll die moments after entering the area. Either option is easy as long as you have the Masteries.

7. Guano Incubated Spider Eggs Hero Point (Deeproot Sink)

  • Mastery Required: Updraft Gliding and Bouncing Mushroms
  • Difficulty: Soloable (2 preferred for ease depending on your profession. Was particularly easy with Dragonhunter traps)

Once you've jumped on the mushroom, just follow the updraft to the ledge on the left.

Land on the branch and make your way to the spider nest

Direction: Directly west from Ogre Camp Waypoint, follow the stream of water that heads towards the Vista. Once there, jump off and hit the first Updraft before gliding right. Use the Bouncing Mushroom in front of you and use both Updrafts to get enough height to fly onto the ledge on the left.

8. Inquisitor’s Campsite Hero Point (Undergrowth Connector)

Mastery Required: None

Difficulty: 2+, 3 preferred for ease.

Head around the tree and up the ridge down the path in front of you

Direction: From Teku Nuhoch Waypoint head up and out of the tree. Continue to head north slightly and bank west up the nearby ridge. Follow the path until you reach the Hero Point - it'll be straight in front of you. Be sure to clear all the nearby enemies as well as they'll make beating the Champion much harder.

9. Mushroom Spore Cloud Hero Point (North of Rata Novus Lane)

Mastery Required: Bouncing Mushrooms

Difficulty: Soloable but 2 preferred for ease.

Follow the ledge on the left until you reach the mushrooms that you need to kill

Direction: From Teku Nuhoch Waypoint, head back out of the tree and head Northeast. You'll come across two bouncing mushrooms that allow you to climb the cliff edge. Follow the ledge until you see enemies below you and some roots blocking the door. Once you kill all the mushrooms, the gate will open. You need to make your way across to the opposite side of the gap, without dropping down. Once on the other side, repeat the process until you reach the Hero Point. Be careful when you're at the Hero Point as the mushroom deals massive AOE damage and it's a very confined space.

10. Ancient Power Core Hero Point (Decayed Hive)

Mastery Required: Exalted Markings

Difficulty: Soloable

Direction: A super easy Hero Point. Simply jump into the water next to Rata Novus Waypoint and swim down through the crack in the floor. Follow the underwater path until you reach the Hero Point. Just be sure to get the Exalted Beacon as you'll die to Pirahna otherwise.

11. Newborn Mushrooms Hero Point (Southwest of Rata Novus Waypoint)

Mastery Required: None

Difficulty: 2+ but 3 is preferred as the Champion can kill you in one hit and the confined space makes it a challenging fight.

Follow the tunnel on the left all the way to the stairs

Direction: Go up the ramp from Rata Novus Waypoint and past all the security systems (it's a linear path). Once inside, there's a staircase on your left hand side. Walk up them and behind you, you'll see a gap in the wall. Glide from the stairs through the gap and follow the tunnel all the way to the Hero Point.
