INTRODUCTION

Enedwaith, the last stop in Eriador, does not receive a lot of
mention in Tolkien's lore. It is known that the land south of Eregion
and North of Gondor was once heavily forested, but the forests were cut
down by the Numenoreans in the Second Age. In the late Third Age
setting of the Lord of the Rings Online, it is a rugged highland moor
populated by the savage Dunlendings known as the Algraig, and a more
recently-established population of rangers of the Grey Company, who are
chasing rumors about a growing shadow in the south. There is also a
small and curious settlement of Hobbits living in the west - Hobbits
who, unlike their northern cousins, wear boots on their feet and beards
on their chins.

Unlike most other new areas introduced to the game prior to
it, Enedwaith is not really a place for leveling up. It is level 65
across the board, put in place for endgame PvE, and rather dangerous
for lower-levels seeking something more challenging (or less gloomy and
depressing) than Mirkwood. It serves as the setting for Books 2 and 3
of Volume III of the epic storyline, and features two distinct
reputation factions - the Algraig and the Grey Company. It is also the
home of Ost Dunhoth, a sprawling 12-player raid divided into 5 wings
and the capstone of the In Their Absence storyline.
