Gamers are dreamers, and since we first set foot in
Azeroth we have
dreamed of flying through its skies as free as wyverns and gryphons.
While The Burning
Crusade expansion gave us our virtual version of
Kitty Hawk, it wasn't until Cataclysm
that the skies became truly
friendly and we were finally free to move about without limits.
Like almost every other aspect of WoW, flying mounts are a progression
based affair and if you wish to use your mount in the most possible
locations you will need to have all expansions enabled, meet various
level requirements and have appropriate amounts of gold to purchase
both the skills and the steeds.
With patch 4.0.1
all flying mount speed was modified to match the top skill
level of its user.

Crafted Mounts
Player crafted mounts have been around since
style="font-style: italic;">The Burning Crusade and
were once restricted to Engineers and Tailors, but with the release of
Cataclysm has
expanded to allow alchemists to join the party. There are
several interesting differences between the Alchemist mount and those of
the other two professions - most notable is that the end result is
tradeable and that it also requires Archeology to discover the recipe.

Faction Reward Mounts
Faction grinds come in all shapes and
sizes, but some of the best are ones that grant those of exalted status
a shiny new flying mount.
Achievement Mounts
As if the coolness of those achievement
points weren't enough (ok, lets face it, they are meaningless) you can
also get some pretty wicked looking flying mounts if you keep your nose
to the grindstone.
Other Notable Mounts
Stay tuned as more mounts are added to the game, and if you find any
noteable ommissions - let us know in our forums.
