Hellfire Citadel, a raid instance released in Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.2, and is located in the Tanaan Jungle Zone. This raid is currently available in four difficulties LFR, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic and requires an ilvl of 650 to enter. With 13 separate raid bosses in this non-linear instance, players will be able to choose their own path through this bastion of the Iron Horde. Divided up into five sections, this is one big instance. The second wing of this enormous instance is the Halls of Blood. In this wing players will have the chance to take on three challenging boss fights; Hellfire High Council, Kilrogg Deadeye, and Gorefiend. Read onward to learn everything you need to know to defeat all three of these foes in LFR mode.

Hellfire High Council

The Hellfire High Council are made up of three Orcs, drastically empowered by the tainted blood of Mannoroth. These Orcs; Dia Darkwhisper, Gurtogg Bloodboil, and Blademaster Jubei'thos. Your raid will face all three of these Orcs simultaneously. Each boss has their own set of abilities and they do not share a health pool.

Despite having three bosses active at once, this fight is pretty straightforward. On LFR most of the boss's abilities are pretty standard and can easily be managed. Your raid will want to DPS the bosses down to 30% health (then kill) the bosses in the following order:

  • Gurtogg Bloodboil
  • Blademaster Jubei'thos
  • Dia Darkwhisper

Once each boss reaches 30% health they will bring out a brand new special attack. These special attacks will be the only abilities your raid will really need to worry about. These effects will persist throughout the rest of the fight, even if the council member is defeated. Special abilities for each boss are as follows:

Gurtogg Bloodboil

When this boss reaches 30% health, he will stack Tainted Blood on the entire raid. Each stack of this debuff reduces the maximum health of all raid members by 10%. There isn't much to be done about this ability except pile on the heals. This ability will become an even bigger problem after Dia's special attack comes into play. Healers should reserve resources for this portion of the fight.

Blademaster Jubei'thos

When reaching 30% health, Jubei'thos casts Wicked Strike. Wicked Strike causes an image of the boss to appear behind half of all the living players in the raid, striking them for 31,040 Fire Damage. This damage increases over time and must simply be healed through. After being killed, Jubei'thos will continue casting Wicked Strike on single raid members until the encounter is over.

Dia Darkwhisper

If you follow the kill order, Dia will be the last boss to reach 30% health, for good reason. Dia will cast Mark of the Necromancer on a random half of the raid. This is a DoT that deals Shadow damage and if dispelled will bounce to 3 nearby allies. This debuff should not be dispelled right away, instead healers should heal the targets until damage becomes overwhelming. Only then should the debuff be dispelled. Killing Dia as quickly as possible is essential before your raid becomes overwhelmed.

Tanks

Tanks should keep the bosses piled as closed together as possible. One tank should take Dia Darkwhisper, while the other takes on Gurtogg Bloodboil and Blademaster Jubei'thos. The tank holding Dia should save a cooldown to mitigate the damage from Nightmare Visage.

DPS

DPS should focus on taking down the bosses to 30% in the correct order as shown above. Besides the bosses, DPS should focus on the clones Jubei'thos will spawn when he casts Mirror Images.

Healers

Healers in this fight should heal raid members as needed. Healing will get intense as the bosses each reach 30%. Cooldowns should be saved for this moment.

Kilrogg Deadeye

In the Halls of Blood your raid will finally face off against the imposing Kilrogg Deadeye. The second boss in this wing, Kilrogg is a single phase encounter. In this single phase, your raid will need to deal with more than a few adds, as well as a special phase.

The name of the game during this fight is to kill Kilrogg, before your raid becomes overwhelmed with adds. When the fight begins, your raid will encounter the first wave of adds. After that adds will continue to spawn roughly every 45 seconds. Adds should be taken down immediately. Kilrogg has a host of abilities he will use throughout the fight, however, they are quite easy to deal with in LFR. Only two abilities stand out:

Heart Seeker

A targeted ability that Kilrogg uses throughout the fight. Kilrogg will pick a random raid member and, after 5 seconds, inflict heavy damage to that player. A red arrow will appear under Kilrogg pointing to the player. Any player standing between Kilrogg and the targeted player will also take heavy damage. When hit by the Heart Seeker, a pile of Blood Splatter will appear beneath the player. Blood Splatter remains on the ground and causes damage to any who stand inside of it.

Visions of Death

Occasionally used in this fight, Kilrogg will mark an area in front of him with a green visual effect. Three runes will be placed on the ground inside the area. After a few seconds, one raid member standing inside the runes is killed (reduced to 0 health, but without actually dying or losing any buffs). If a rune is unoccupied the entire raid takes damage.

The “dead” player will be teleported to a special realm known as the Death Realm. In this Realm players will find a small room with 4 doors. Adds will spawn at an increasing rate from these doors. When an add is killed, DPS players gain a buff increasing damage done, while healers receive a buff increasing their healing. This buff stacks up to 20 times, at which point all players are transported back to the main room. Also, players who die inside the Death Realm are also transported back to the main room. Even more beneficial, Healers who escape from the Death Realm gain the Cleansing Aura debuff. This Aura reduces the Fel Corruption of nearby raid members.

Besides these two abilities, players should be sure to move out of damaging effects and to interrupt any spell casts possible. Below you will find role specific instructions for this fight:

Tanks

One tank will focus on tanking Kilrogg, while the other will attempt to pick up spawned adds. A tank switch will need to be performed on the Hulking Terror when Fel Corruption reaches high levels. Active mitigation will be needed when Kilrogg casts Shred Armor.

DPS

DPS will split their time between damaging Kilrogg and taking down any adds that spawn throughout the fight. When possible, 2 DPS players should try to enter the Death Realm by standing in one of the 3 provided circles.

Healers

Healers will heal the raid as usual. One healer should plan to enter the Death Realm by standing in one of the three circles that appear during Visions of Death. This healer will focus on keeping the DPS inside the realm alive as long as possible.

Gorefiend

Gorefiend is the final boss in this wing and arguably the hardest fight of the three. Although, this is a single phase encounter, players must fight on two different realms; the main room and The Heart of Corruption. Each realm has its own unique set of challenges.

While in the main room players will face off against Gorefiend himself. Players will want to remain spread out, at least 5 yards from any other player. While this boss has a host of abilities, most of them are easy to manage in LFR. However, there are a few that your raid will need to watch out for:

Shadow of Death

Gorefiend targets several random players and teleports them into the Heart of Corruption after 5 seconds. At least 1 tank and 1 healer will be targeted by this ability.

Touch of Doom

Gorefiend places a debuff on a few players that causes them to explode and cause Shadow damage to everyone around them. Damage is less the further away from the rest of the raid you are. Also, upon explosion, the player will leave behind a Doom Well (a void zone). So when you are marked with Touch of Death, you should move as far away from the raid as possible to avoid excess damage and place the Doom Well in a location that will not hinder the raid.

Feast of Souls

At the start of the fight Gorefiend will start out with 100 Energy. This Energy will slowly deplete as the fight progresses. When it reaches 0, Gorefiend will cast Feast of Souls, dealing raid-wide Shadow Damage every 2 seconds and spawning a large number of Unstable Souls.

Once spawned, these adds slowly move towards Gorefiend and will grant him 10 Energy if reached. Unable to be tanked or crowd controlled, Unstable Souls simply need to be destroyed by the raid as quickly as possible. When killed, the Soul deals raid-wide Shadow damage, as well as Shadow damage in a small radius around it.

While Feast of Souls is happening, Gorefiend will not cast any other abilities. Players in the Heart of Corruption will be transported to the main room. During this cast, Gorefiend will take 100% extra damage from all sources. Feast of Souls will cease after Gorefiend reaches 100 Energy or after 1 minute.

Basically players in the main room will be waiting for Gorefiend to cast Feast of Souls and trying to extend it to last as long as possible for maximum DPS on the boss.

Periodically, a number of players will be picked and automatically transported into the Heart of Corruption. Once inside, these players will find a number of adds that must be taken care of, in various manners, in a timely fashion. Once inside this realm, players will need to do the following:

  • Avoid standing in Void Zones.
  • Kill Shadowy Constructs and prevent them from reaching the center of the room.
  • Heal Tortured Essences as much as possible.
  • Immediately kill Enraged Spirits when they spawn and interrupt their Bellowing Shout.
  • Leave the Heart of Corruption before your 40 second timer is up via the central pillar. Staying inside after your timer is up will result in immediate death.

Here is a breakdown of what each player will need to be doing throughout the fight based on their role:

Tanks

In the main room, one tank will need to tank Gorefiend while the other tanks Gorebound Spirits. A tank switch should take place when the Fel Flames debuff gets overwhelming. If transported into the Heart of Corruption the tank should pick up and tank the Enraged Spirit. Once it reaches 70% health it will vanish. At this time you should exit the Heart of Corruption.

DPS

DPS during this fight will have a lot going on. You will need to defeat all adds that appear, while saving your cooldowns for Feast of Souls. When targeted by Touch of Doom, DPS should hastily move out of the raid until their Void Zone is dropped. When inside the Heart of Corruption, DPS down Enraged Spirits and Shadowy Constructs and be sure to leave the realm before your 40 second timer expires.

Healers

Healers during the Gorefiend fight will need to heal through damage as per usual, saving cooldowns for when Feast of Souls is cast. They will also need to move out of the raid when affected by Touch of Doom, dropping their Void Zone in a smart location. When inside the Heart of Corruption healers will need to heal up the other raid members as well as Tortured Essences. They also need to be sure to leave the realm before their 40 second timer expires.
