Introduction

Runeforging is a special ability Death Knights earn as they level up through the starting area. This ability allows you to basically get a free enchant anytime you want, that helps your DPS, your grinding, or your overall tanking abilities! In order to use this ability though you must go to the Ebon Hold, and use a Rune Forge, which are located at the top of the Hold.

Remember, you may access Ebon Hold any time (with a cooldown) by opening a portal to it - it is a skill given to you. Once in the Ebon Hold you may go and seek out your Rune Forge and open up your options. As of right now, you have 8 available options for runeforging - all of which will overwrite any enchants your weapon has, so if you want to use this ability you better not be counting on any other enchants for your weapon.

You may open up a portal to Ebon Hold anywhere you are to go use Runecrafting or Train.

Once ready the process is simple, you open your spellbook or click the shortcut to Runeforging, and a list of enchants is given to you. You may repeat the forging as many times as you wish with no extra charge or drawbacks, so you can and are encouraged to swap runes every so often to tailor to your next area of adventuring.

A Runeforge, located at the top of Ebon Hold

Cinderglacier - Affixes your rune weapon with a rune that has a chance to increase the damage by 20% of your next 3 spells that deal Frost or Shadow damage. Lasts 30 sec.

This rune allows you to DPS in group settings better than others - by increasing your damage output of Frost and Shadow, this allows you to be more of a 'caster', and is more tuned to the Frost and Unholy tree rather than the Blood abilities.

Razorice - Affixes your rune weapon with a rune that causes 1% extra weapon damage as Frost damage and has a chance to increase Frost vulnerability. Modifying your rune weapon requires a Rune Forge in Ebon Hold.

This rune allows you to tank better by having more damage and enhancing your frost damage, directly translating into more threat for you! Tanks should definitely have this rune most of the time to enhance their productivity and aggro holding.

Spellbreaking - Affixes your one-handed rune weapon with a rune that deflects 2% of all spell damage.

This rune lets you absorb and deal magic damage against places that have a high magic damage output. If comboed with your Anti-Magic Shell from the Unholy tree, this results in a significant amount of damage done. Since this is a 1-handed enchant, this is best used in a PvE setting against highly magic-based areas (if not tanking)

Spellshattering - Affixes your two-handed rune weapon with a rune that deflects 4% of all spell damage.

This rune lets you absorb and deal magic damage against places that have a high magic damage output. If comboed with your Anti-Magic Shell from the Unholy tree, this results in a significant amount of damage done. A PvP use could be seen as well.

Lichbane - Affixes your rune weapon with a rune that has a chance to strike undead for extra Fire damage and stun them for 5 sec.

Great rune for undead zones if you're DPSing, as the extra fire damage and stun will definitely help out groups or solo play, giving you more time to let your cooldowns ready up once more and finish them off faster.

Adding a new rune to your weapon is simple!

Swordbreaking - Affixes your one-handed rune weapon with a rune that increases Parry chance by 2%

A pure tanking rune, use this if using a 1-hander, to avoid more damage taken if your threat generation is fine.

Swordshattering - Affixes your two-handed rune weapon with a rune that increases Parry chance by 4%.

Great PvP rune, more parrying means less damage taken overall. A good battleground rune if you're Blood/Frost based.

Fallen Crusader - Affixes your rune weapon with a rune that has a chance to heal you for 3% and increase total Strength by 30% for 15 sec.

THE rune for leveling and most general purposes such as grinding or normal DPS - health regeneration and strength increase! What more could you ask for? Use this as soon as you can whenever you're not sure what to use, as it serves overall purposes perfectly!

Runeforging is a great skill and a good bonus for your Death Knight, it will surely help both in the leveling process and the endgame content. With so many options, you are able to adapt to any given situation atleast with your weapon!
