Hunter's Guide Index

This list provides all the basic details about each animal type that can be used as a hunter's pet. Each animal type is described briefly, then lists the skills they have access to, their stats (compared to the normal levels), the food they will eat, and what type of pet they are considered (DPS, Tank, or All Purpose).

The animal types that are available as pets are as follows:

Hyenas

Hyenas are a pretty good overall pet, with a slight edge towards PvP due to their ability to learn dash. They have solid stats all around and are fairly rare pets. For some reason not many players chose them, but if you are looking for something different, they could be for you.

Skills: Bite, Cower, Dash, Growl
Stats: Normal Damage, +5% Armor, Normal Health
Food: Fruit, Meat
Type: All Around

Nether Ray

Nether Rays are flying caster based pets found throughout the outlands. While generally inferior to other normal pets, they do have a large health pool and can be useful pets. They just take a little more effort than some others to maintain.

Skills: Bite, Cower, Dive, Growl
Stats: +3% Damage, -10% Armor, +10% Health
Food: Meat
Type: All Around

Owls

Owls are similar to bats in most of their abilities, and as such are fairly popular DPS pets. They can learn several useful abilities and eat meat which is very easy to get. As with any other flying pet, they tend to get in the way when targeting, and this limits their popularity.

Skills: Claw, Cower, Dive, Growl, Screech
Stats: +7% Damage, Normal Armor, Normal Health
Food: Meat
Type: DPS

Raptors

Raptors are a very popular hunter pet, after all everyone loves dinosaurs. Raptors are very solid DPS pets that have decent armor, and not horribly low health. Toss in the fact that they can dash to close with the enemy faster and they make a very good choice for a pet

Skills: Bite, Claw, Cower, Dash, Growl
Stats: +10% Damage, +3% Armor, -5% Health
Food: Meat
Type: DPS

Ravager

Ravagers are a very common DPS pet. Many players switched from cats to ravagers when they became available after the release of the Burning Crusade. They are a very alien looking bug type creature, that puts our some serious DPS and has the great ability of gore. Their only downside is that they have very low health.

Skills: Bite,
Cower, Dash, Gore, Growl
Stats: +10% Damage, +5% Armor, -7% Health
Food: Meat
Type: DPS

Scorpid

While not all that common scorpids have a lot going for them as a pet. While their normal attacks do less damage than normal they can affect their target with poisons, and have high armor value. Scorpids are also very low to the ground, so tend to be completely unobtrusive in combat. In general they are an all purpose pet, but many hunters swear by them as arena pets due to the extra debuff they can put on an opponent.

Skills: Claw,
Cower, Growl, Scorpid Poison
Stats: -6% Damage, +10% Armor, Normal Health
Food: Meat
Type: All Purpose

Serpent

Serpents are an all around type pet that is different from other pets in that it has a ranged attack DoT called poison Spit. Most of the serpents that you can train are elite, which somewhat limits the number of hunters with them. They are a good choice if you are looking for something different in a pet.

Skills: Bite,
Cower, Growl, Poison Spit
Stats: Normal Damage, Normal Armor, Normal Health
Food: Fish, Meat
Type: All Purpose

Spiders

Spiders are the first choice of many hunters, since they are rather fierce looking and have solid damage. However spiders can only learn base abilities, and as such are rather limited. On the plus side though they are cool looking, do respectable damage, are easy to feed, and low to the ground (to avoid line of sight issues).

Skills: Bite,
Cower, Dive, Fire Breath, Growl
Stats: +7% Damage, Normal Armor, Normal Health
Food: Meat
Type: DPS
