Daily Tip: Human characters can choose their ancestry from Ascalonian, Canthan, Elonian and Krytan

Guild Wars 2

  • Jungle Henge

Smack in the middle of the Maguuma Jungle, you'll find this surprisingly well appointed town. The Henge of Denravi is one of the prettier locations in the game, especially around the fringes of town.

Henge of Denravi (HoD) is a quiet, mysterious place. It isn't so much carved out of the jungle as a part of it.

Read more about in our new Guide to the Henge of Denravi at Guild Wars - TenTonHammer.

  • Boxing Day!

Remember the box your original copy of Guild Wars: Prophecies came in? The one with the glaring Warrior on one side, and the glaring Necromancer babe on the other. Yeah, that one. Now imagine it bigger—say, around 12x16 inches. We've got FIVE of these to give away.

So what's the catch? There isn't one, really. All you have to do is tell us who your favorite NPC is and why. We'll select five of the most convincing fans and get a giant Guild Wars box sent to their home. (Warning: Oversize box does not contain oversize game discs. Boxes are not appropriate as a storage device for kittens. Boxes may have sharp corners and are unsuitable for cuddling, no matter how cute you find that necromancer.)

The contest will run until May 8th, 2006. Post your entry at the Guild Wars - TenTonHammer forums or send an e-mail to Samyel (at) tentonhammer.com.

  • Yaktastic

This is the second in a series of guides to the important outposts in Guild Wars. Prepare for your visit to Yak's Bend by reading our description of the town and what you'll find there.

Yak's Bend is named for the creatures who are as ubiquitous to the area as gamers in an internet café. (Feel free to pet the yaks. They're used to it.) Snowy, but mild, this is a place to prepare yourself for the trip through the Shiverpeak Mountains.

Get a list of NPCs and more info by reading Guide: Yak's Bend at Guild Wars - TenTonHammer.

  • Feline Forts

Lion's Arch is one of the most popular locations in Guild Wars. In fact, the ArenaNet team likes it enough to use it for the occasional chit-chat with the community. Don't believe me? Wait till the frog talks.

This prime real estate is owned by the White Mantle. Stormy skies and wheeling seagulls help make this town one of the most visually interesting in the game.

Read more about this town and the resources you'll find there in Guide: Lion's Arch at Guild Wars - TenTonHammer.

  • Welcome to Ascalon!

First in a series of tourist guides to Guild Wars hot spots, Ascalon City is first major city you'll encounter. Our guide applies to the non-tutorial, post-Sear version. Here you can trade, buy rare items, craft armor, and form a guild.

Located in North Eastern Tyria, Ascalon City was once a prosperous and peaceful place. Since the Charr invasion, however, it's changed. The warm azure and green tones of the city have been replaced by a grim and angry red haze.

Read about this urban center at Guild Wars - TenTonHammer.

  • Getting Tricky

Guild Wars is a fairly forgiving game. It's hard to paint yourself into a corner. Leveling isn't much of a grind, you can change your subclass, and even when things go bad, it isn't difficult to get a do-over. However, especially if you're new to the game, you'd probably prefer to avoid as many "newbie" mistakes as you can.

If you care about unlocking all the skills in the game, chose your class combinations carefully. Don't waste time leveling up a Monk/Mesmer and then a Warrior/Monk, unless you really want to, or you're not keeping tabs on skill gathering.

To help you out, we've compiled a list of 20 Tips n' Tricks at Guild Wars - TenTonHammer.

  • On the Air

Master of the Guild Wars podcast, Weapon of Choice, DJ Wheat has a lot of thoughts on the game we all know and love. In this interview, we talk about everything from why he's called "Wheat" to podcasting Donkey Konga.

Wheat: If positioned correctly, they could get a @#%!load of attention with a Guild Wars-only event. Take a look at BlizzCon or QuakeCon. These are events which saw numbers in the thousands in attendance, and hundreds of thousands of people online. Guild Wars is no different. They can also attract everyone who is a part of the game. Seems simple to me.

  • Terms of Endearment

The sheer amount of slang in the gaming world can be a bit daunting. Factor in the abbreviations and it can seem like another language entirely.

Fortunately, our Guild Wars - TenTonHammer team is here to help! In the first part of Terms of Guild Wars, at Guild Wars - TenTonHammer we lead you all the way up to "FTW."

  • Relay Race

If you haven't found your way into the world of Internet Relay Chat, now is a great time to start. A lot of MMO players —particularly the Guild Wars PvP community—use IRC as a means of connecting, socializing, and organizing.

As for IRC etiquette, well, it varies from place to place. With all of them, I suggest "idling" or lurking for awhile to get a sense of the community before you jump in. The Guild Wars community isn't always very nice to "newbies," so be braced for some nastiness if you start peppering inhabitants with questions. Usually, there will be a few people who are happy to help new comers (me, for one!) but don't take it personally if someone hollers something mean about your lack of omniscience. That's just IRC for you.

Curious yet? Then read on at Guild Wars - TenTonHammer!
