  • BFGs for your BFRs
Gamecloud sits down with Thom Terrezas, project manager for SOE's sleeper MMOFPS PlanetSide to discuss how the game's done since launch 2 years ago.

Thom Terrazas - PS has gone through a lot of exciting changes since launch. Some of the more notable features we are proud of include localizing PlanetSide in China; Merit/Award Commendations; Battle Islands; BFR’s; and the Event System. We have a very vocal community that gives us great feedback on a daily basis. We try to be as responsive as possible to their suggestions. Like us, they just want the game to become better and better.

  • New interviews on the Horizons.
RPG Vault sits down with Peter Beagle, the renowned fantasy author recently hired to write for Horizons: Empire of Istaria, as well as David Bowman, Creative Director for Horizons, and Connor Cochran, Beagle's publishing editor and friend. While Beagle is new to the gaming industry, he's optimistic:

Peter Beagle: As I warned the first university class I ever taught - a screenwriting class at the University of Washington - 'You guys are my guinea pigs. I'm undoubtedly going to be learning on you, and making all my mistakes on you, and I can only ask your patience and your indulgence while I'm doing it.' I was immensely proud when a couple of students came up to me at the end of two quarters and assured me, 'Boy, did you learn!' I hope to earn the same reward with Horizons.

  • No one will ask whether Captain Morgan (arrrrr!) will make an in-game appearance.
I guess I'll have to bring my Cap'n with me. Here's a snippet from the lightning round of Pirates of the Burning Sea Q&A done by the Stratics crew.

Stratics: It is a challenge to integrate the economic and combat mechanics and keep it fun. It sounds as though you have taken this problem head on and you know better than to bite off more than you can chew at the start.

Daynes: We try! One of the greatest lessons we’ve learned from other MMPs is to keep your own expectations realistic, and aim for what you can actually hit. This is a challenge for any team and we’ve reached too high more than once, so we’ve learned from experience as well as example. We’ll get the economy integrated, but it will only be once it’s ready.

Arrrrr! Take a look, matey...Stratics' November Pirates of the Burning Sea interview!

  • More late nights with Conan.

IGN has posted an Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures interview featuring Gaute Godager and focusing on turning a license into a game.

" Age of Conan - Hyborian Adventures is Funcom's contribution to a revival of the property that includes both a movie and an animated film along with new novels, a comic series, collectible toys and more. Described as an online action RPG, its aim is to bring together a story-driven single-player experience and a massively multiplayer end game, both capturing the classic swords and sorcery feeling as well as the lush, dark, brutally violent and not always politically correct nature of the franchise. The titular hero's grip on the Aquilonian throne has become tenuous, with ancient evils threatening to throw the realm into chaos. The time is ripe for those with the strength and will to carve out their own destinies. As for our fate, we were favored by fortune in finding Game Director Gaute Godager willing to answer our questions. "
