  • Henry Ford might turn over in his grave...

But he wasn't the only inspiration behind the motive MMOG Auto Assault! Learn how Auto Assault evolved conceptually and what it draws from the legends of the MMOG genre in this new sit-down session with Auto Assault Project Lead Scott Brown!

Q : Apart from the obvious, what would you say influenced you in the development of Auto Assault? Not just in a broad sense either - were there any games, movies, or what-have-you that had a direct bearing on some aspect of the game?

Scott Brown : I don't know that there is a direct influence on the game - so many different people's ideas and backgrounds have shaped the game into what it is today. We have wanted to do a car combat MMO for a long time and setting it in a post-apocalyptic universe just makes sense thanks to movies like Mad Max and games like Wasteland and Fallout.

  • All PvP. All The Time.
IGN has posted a Guild Wars Extreme PvP Weekend interview featuring Isaiah Cartwright. Hoss and Little Joe Cartwright from the Ponderosa ranch rode up and shouted:

" With the multiplayer event coming up so quickly this Friday, ArenaNet
was good to take the time to answer some quick questions about the
update and what people can expect both from it and the future of Guild Wars. ArenaNet's Skill Balance Game Designer Isaiah Cartwright provides the answers to the future of skills in one of the most popular RPGs on the PC. "

  • Corvettes With Cannons.
Boomtown has posted an Auto Assault interview featuring, loot, items and crafting. Vin Diesel once saw a ghost, and it was so scared of him that it turned white. After, he mumbled something that sounded nothing like this:

" The third in a series of in-depth Q&As with the Auto Assault dev-team, discusses Loot, Items and Crafting... "

  • Magic Missle Mayhem
GameSpy has posted a Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach interview featuring designer Dave Eckleberry. Vin Diesel didn't roll the dice when he played Dungeons and Dragons. He just crushed them in his hand and called out the numbers. We're confident he didn't call this out:

" We sit down with one of the designers of Turbine's upcoming MMO to talk about combat, death traps, and why Eberron is so damned cool. "

  • Mean and nasty, coming to a screen near you.
GameSpy has posted a City of Villains interview featuring Zeb Cook. Magneto assured us that the following was true:

" Zeb Cook's been a lot of things during his years as a game designer. He was one of the TSR guys responsible for the Planescape setting, and when he moved to the video-game world, he worked on a number of high-profile projects like Fallout 2 and Blood & Magic. One thing he's not, though, and never has been, is a mean-spirited guy. That's why it was so strange to find him at this year's GenCon gaming convention chuckling evilly and waxing poetic on the virtues of being rotten. "

  • Maybe their tights are just too tight?
GameSpot has a City of Villains interview posted featuring Jack Emmert, the creative director on the game. The Rhino charged into our offices and smashed them to bits. In the rubble we found the following:

" It's good to be evil, or that's the lesson that NCsoft and Cryptic Studios hope that you'll learn later this year, when City of Villains launches. This follow-up to last year's online role-playing game City of Heroes will twist things around a bit. Instead of creating a unique and powerful superhero and saving the world from destruction, you'll create a dastardly supervillain who is looking to become rich, powerful, and infamous. You'll not only battle computer-controlled opponents, but you'll also get into scruffs with other villains, not to mention those meddling superheroes. City of Villains is currently undergoing its beta test for the November launch, so we caught up with Jack Emmert, City of Villains' creative director, to learn more about what you'll be able to do in the game. • Gremlins With Grenade Launchers
EuroGamer has an Auto Assault Interview posted featuring NetDevil president, Scott Browm. Keanu Reeves strolled into our offices dressed as Constantine, or Neo, or some other character just like that and professed:

" Games like Guild Wars and World of Warcraft have shown that it's possible and very desirable to make a game accessible and rewarding for both hardcore gamers and the average Joe Bloggs on the street with a couple of hours a week to spend on his PC. Does Auto Assault have similar aspirations? And what is it that determines your approach in this regard - resources, time, commercial obligations, etc? "

  • Norse Mythology Cringes.
MMORPG has posted a Ragnarok Developer's Diary with Cianar Cabos. Odin declined comment, but Thor had this to say about that, or this:

" When I think about my job, I ask myself with puzzled wonderment, "How did I get here?" Not the kind of puzzled wonderment like I just woke up from a dazed stupor beside three of the Laker Girls or discovered I'm immune to bullets as they pass right through me. The feeling I’m talking about is much like the first time I sat down in one of those electronic full body massage chairs: peculiar—I was essentially being massaged by a robot after all—yet undeniably good. • Basements get quiet, if only for a moment, to read and wash their dice.
The official Dungeons and Dragons Online site has posted a developer's diary with Ken Troop, Lead Designer. Gary Gygax would not return our calls, but if he had we are sure he wouldn't have said this:

" Hey everyone.  I'm Ken Troop, lead designer on Dungeons & Dragons® Online: Stormreach".   This development diary delves into the background behind a very important issue: advancement in DDO.  "
