  • A Not So Serious Chat with a CEO

Gamernode.com has posted a humorous yet informative Q&A session one of their editors, Brendon Lindsey, had with Jeff Anderson, the CEO of Turbine, Inc. It's a pretty funny read, but it also manages to be informative as well. They even talk about another lifetime subscription (not the Founder's program) being introduced for late-joining players.

Turbine launched Lord of the Rings Online this morning and as of 3:00 PM Eastern time the company is very happy with how things had rolled out so far. Launch is a scary day, but the team made it even more frightening when key staff spread out to locations across the United States for launch parties. WarCry spoke to Adam Mersky, the head of Turbine's Public Relations, just after he got back from a launch event in New York City.

"[The launch has] been great, really smooth," Mersky told us in a phone interview. "Everyone is very calm, things are rolling smoothly."

  • Mike Searle, Prima Games LotRO Guide Author, Interviewed

It's Lord of the Rings Online launch day, and Ten Ton Hammer's John Hoskin interviews Mike Searle, author of 30 (!) Prima Games guides covering everything from Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series to Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. This man clearly knows his computer and video games! Most recently, Searle wrote two guides for Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, and he shares his thoughts on what it takes to craft these intricate guides and what he hopes to offer his readership.

"(Searle:) I've been hooked on MMOs since battling ruthless PKers in Ultima Online, and there isn't an MMO out there that I haven't at least booted up to see how it tackles character creation. So it was with real joy (and dread) that I picked up LOTRO as my very first MMO book for Prima. It combined my two greatest passions--the fantasy world of J.R.R. Tolkien and massively multiplayer online games--but talk about daunting! Luckily, we had a lot of time to work on the books and constant help from the Turbine design team. We overcame the challenge of an incredibly huge and immensely detailed world setting through a coordinated effort."

  • Confessions of a MMO Noob

GameShark.com starts the week with a look at Lord of the Rings Online. Keep reading to see what their thoughts are.

The good news is that whether you have any idea of what an “instance” is or not, ultimately, none of that matters. For the uninitiated, LotRO holds your hand through what you absolutely have to know to get by and leaves the rest up to you.
