Level range indicates optimum level range to gain XP from
kills - the median level range of the dominant mobs, plus/minus 2
levels. Resources indicates crafting materials available from nodes and
from hide-bearing creatures in the area - humanoid mobs may drop other
types of items. Mobs indicates the dominant creature types that can be
found in the area, with links to their relevant slayer deeds where
appropriate. Landmarks include named points of interest and deed
locations, with links to relevant deeds.

Description: Ram Duath is the
gateway to the south, guarded to the west by worms and drakes and to
the east by orcs, goblins and Angmarim. The western part with the worms
and drakes is lower-level, related to quests out of Esteldin. The road
through the middle, passing through the Earth-kin camp of Lehma-koti,
is the dividing line between the low-level and higher-level areas.
Heading through eastern Ram Duath takes you into Angmar via Bail Rova,
a well-guarded Angmarim fort-town. Following the main road through the
Earth-kin camp takes you to Aughaire.

Description: Cracked grey mud,
ash-coloured hills, ghostly dead trees, stagnant pools and black cliffs
- no, this isn't the Capital Wasteland in Fallout 3, it's West Angmar.
Though it looks like a post-nuclear devastation zone, it is teeming
with mostly-hostile life, and Hillmen tribes have forged some
settlements out of this bleak, barren wasteland. And so have the
Angmarim at Dun Covad and the Orcs and Morfil and Bursum Pushdug. Dun
Covad has a well-guarded "back way" into Carn Dum that does not require
trucking all the way to East Angmar and through Himbar and the
gauntlet. The path is marked with Watching Stones, though, so you still
need to complete Volume I Book 6 to get there by foot.

Description: A harsh, hostile
"swamp" of mineral pools and steaming hotsprings surrounded by
towering, mineral-encrusted vents. One can practically smell the
sulphurous stink and feel the sickening, slimy heat of the place. The
environment doesn't support much
in the way of flora, but the fauna consists of massive, prehistoric
turtles and flies, bog lurkers, fire-breathing worms and the usual
assortment of violent humanoids that are found pretty much everywhere
in Angmar. The goblin camps in Western Malenhad are prime farming spots
for low-numbered legendary pages. North of the swamp, a road passes
through a settlement overtaken by orcs. Note that the eastern and
western halves of the swamp are divided by a line of Watching Stones at
Rammas Deluon that emanate a terrible aura of fear - without
specialtraining (i.e. completing Volume I Book 6, which can be done
without having finished the previous 5 books)
, characters attempting to cross this threshold will actually die of
fear. It is possible to get summoned or ported to the other side
without completing Vol. 1 Bk. 6. Interesting historical tidbit: way
back in the day, the Nerbyg in the eastern half were farmed for the
very-rare drops of ichor used to make red dye.

Description: The foothills
between the sulphurous
swamps and the jagged black mountains are pretty much the garden spot
of Angmar, inasmuch as some of the plants have colours other than
black, ghostly-white or ash-grey. The orcs are fairly thick in this
area, and Maethad, a town/arena built inside a mountain-rimmed crater,
seems to be the storage yard for trolls. Be on the lookout for the
hillmen camped around here, and in Malenhad and points north - there's
a rather long quest chain to kill all of them and reclaim the stolen
items they carry.

with baddies of all descriptions, all gathered around the monument of
evil that is Barad Gularan to plot and scheme. A great many of these
mobs are elites or stronger, and travel through this area can be
difficult and time-consuming when attempted on-level. Picking your way
through the rocky passes to the northeast will eventually get you to
the Rift of Nurz Ghashu, which is even rougher terrain.

the more southern regions, in the high foothills of the mountains. This
is a gentle highland compared to the rest of Angmar, but that's not
saying too much. The Hillmen and Angmarim have settled here, and this
region lies at the doorstep of Carn Dum. The giant spider Bogbereth
will spawn in at Torech-i-Bogbereth after killing all the small spiders
there - at one time, this was a 6-man job that required careful
planning and a treacherous slog through tough spiders, and a kill
rewarded the group with a housing trophy. The trophy still drops, but
the fight is not so hard for endgame characters.

Description: The capital city of
Angmar, recently
rebuilt by the Witch King and his Steward, Mordirith. Carn Dum is a
sprawling metropolis, much larger than any other city in Eriador, which
perfectly illustrates the organizational skills of Sauron and his
minions. His guys may be twisted and evil, but dammit, they work well
together. Though the architecture and massive civic works are
impressive, tourists and visitors to the region's capital are generally
not welcome. Urugarth is essentially the slums of Carn Dum, downstream
of the higher city's sewers and the stronghold of the more beastly,
low-brow servants of Angmar. Tarmunn Sursa, perched precariously just
on the outskirts of the big city, is a refuge for the more sympathetic
hillmen and a staging point for the Free Peoples.

Angmarim fear to face. But something that powerful is also seductive to
the likes of Mordirith and the Witch King - if taken, it can be used as
a weapon in the service of Sauron. The path to the Rift is lined with
the foulest, strongest sorts of villains, and back in the day the
voyage to the Rift was almost as dangerous as the Rift itself.
