TOWNS AND QUEST HUBS

These are the towns, camps and other assorted places where
players can pick up quests. Level range describes the optimum level
range for XP gain. Important NPCs are those who bestow quest chains or
are crucial to the epic storyline, with position coordinates listed if
located outside the main hub. Description is a broad guideline of what
to expect from each quest hub without going into too specific of detail.

Quest hubs in the Shire tend to be spread out rather than
packed into small areas. Typically, quests initiated in one town will
require traveling to another town and back.

The
path to epic chicken-hood.

LITTLE DELVING, SANDSON'S FARM

Level Range: 5-6

Important NPCs: Mundo
Sackville-Baggins, Bounder, Postman Newbuck, George the Rooster

Town Services

  • Mailbox
  • Milestone
  • Barterer for starter items

Description: Not much here. Pick
up the quests and head to Michel Delving to complete them, and you will
probably never return to Little Delving. Start the mail delivery quest
chain here - each delivery counts toward the Life of a Bounder deed,
which requires completing 75 quests for the final stage. href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/lotro/guides/areas/shire/deeds#chicken">Sandson's
Farm
is just down the road and has a few chicken-related quests - go here to
start the chain of chicken session-play quests. The chicken quests will
take you far and wide and showcase the weirder side of the developers'
sense of humour.

Hobbits

  • Barber (Bird & Baby)
  • Hobby Master (Bird & Baby)
  • Healer (Bird & Baby)
  • Inn League Reputation services (Bird & Baby)
  • Reflecting Pool
  • Campsite Fires (Waymeet)

Description: Most players will
pass through Michel Delving at some point in their careers. This is the
main hub-town and financial centre of the Shire. Quests originating in
Michel Delving will take players further east and north. The Mathom
Society, operating out of a big, non-hobbit-y house up a hill, is one
of the easiest factions to gain reputation with, since the Mathoms and
Well-kept Mathoms seem to drop everywhere. The Inn League, operating
out of a room at the back of the Bird & Baby Inn, is one of the
most difficult factions to gain rep with, as it is only accessible to
the uninitiated during seasonal festivals. The Mathom House has a
superior study that can be used by scholars at Friend standing, and the
facility is much handier than the one in Rivendell.

Town Services

  • Mailbox
  • Grocer

Description: A lot of average
Shire stuff happening here. Arguments with neighbors, hobbits afraid of
their own shadows, Tooks getting up to no good. Black riders be damned,
there are bears trying to take the honey!

  • Superior Farmland, Expert Farmhand (30.4S, 70.9W)
  • Gaffer Gamgee, Respected Gardener (30.2S, 71.5W)

Description: The hobbit
twin-cities of Hobbiton and Bywater. Holly Hornblower is the starter of
the pie delivery quest chain, which is similar in nature to the mail
delivery chain but somewhat more challenging. Farmers can spend their
entire crafting careers at the farmland just north of Hobbiton

alt="Needlehole"
src="http://www.tentonhammer.com/image/view/94183">

The
reason the Hobbits hardly ever see elves, despite living right next
door to them, is probably because of the wretched slug-filled swamp in
their dooryard.

NEEDLEHOLE

Level Range: 7 - 10

Important NPCs: Postman Redsmith,
Ulfar, Bounder Chubb, Griffo Boffin, Filibert Bolger

Town Services

  • Supplier
  • Stable-master (Hobbiton, Duillond)

Description: A missing cow and
trouble with invading dwarves has the denizens of Needlehole all worked
up. The assault on Pinglade instance is challenging for an on-level
solo attempt - better to try it with a group.

Otho Broadbelt, Postman Boffin, Everard Holebourne

Town Services:

  • Grocer
  • Mailbox
  • Outdoor workbenches
  • Expert Woodworker
  • Campfire

Description: The lumber camp
sandwiched between The Hill and Bindbole Wood. There are problems with
spiders and other creepy things in the woods, but not really enough to
keep players here for very long. Both the map and radar show a Leather
Worker supplier NPC near the workbench and campfire, but no such NPC
exists.

Description: A handful of quests
here sending players into the Greenfields to keep the sheep safe from
critters, and some stuff for the quarry. This is the highest-level
questing area available in the Shire and there's not much of it. Once
you are done here, it's probably time to move to east Bree-land.

BUDGEFORD, FROGMORTON, STOCK

Level Range: 8 - 12

Important NPCs: Ponto
Hopsbloom, Myrtle Oddfoot, Milo Hornblower, Odo Mudbottom, Postman
Oddfoot, Milo Bolger, Odovacar Bolger, Wilimar Bolger, Bingo Bolger,
Postman Bolger, Gunderic Grubb, Mat Harfoot, Postman Smallburrow, the
Black Rider

Town Services

  • Supplier
  • Provisioner
  • Forge and workbench with Novice crafting suppliers
  • Milestone
  • Armour and Weapnsmiths
  • Mailbox
  • The Floating Log Inn (Frogmorton)

Description: Some quests here
related to the pig-farming trade. Plus one hobbit that's a few crackers
short of a picnic. There is a level 11 elite warg to contend with
around Bridgefields Wall. Also worth noting is the sudden dip in the
south path out of town - the dip is just deep enough to dismount a
riding hobbit but can easily be jumped over. Frogmorton and Stock are
fairly thin for quests

food means something a bit different in the Shire. At least, that's
what Farmer Maggot tells people.

MISCELLANEOUS

Level Range: 9 - 12

Important NPCs: Mungo
Burrows (24.8S, 67.4W), Farmer Maggot (34.4S, 64.4W),  Postman
Spinner (Woodhall), Orthir (33.4S, 66.1W)

Town Services

  • Respected Farmer (Farmer Maggot)
  • Grocer (Woodhall)

Description: A variety of quests
from de-centralized NPCs out in the wilderness. Mungo Burrows has a
missing-sheep problem in the north, and Orthir, an elf camped near
Woodhall, is concerned about brigands.
