  • Developer Diary: Crafting the Mountains of Ered Luin

The official site for Lord of the Rings Online has been updated with a new Dev Diary written by Dan Haard.

When tasked with creating environment assets for Ered Luin, I first stepped back and looked at the overall ambiance the team wanted to achieve in this area. My goal as an environment artist is to create world assets that not only work consistently with each other, but unify to give the place a distinct visual meaning; a story that even the rocks will tell. In the case of the highlands of Ered Luin, we wanted to tell a story of a frozen wild; a place set apart, as the natural boundary it is, from the rest of Middle-earth.

  • Wednesday Beta Player Journal

The official site for Lord of the Rings Online has been updated with the weekly installment of beta player journals.

The atmosphere was one of revelry, camaraderie and a touch of sadness that the end of an era was fast approaching. Calls from allies on the chat panel informed the party-goers that orcs and trolls were seen invading Bree, and were headed our way. Some sprang into action to help, while others stayed in “true Hobbit fashion”, unconcerned with such dire news.

  • Exploring Middle-earth: The Fields of Fornost

The official site for Lord of the Rings Online just posted this week's Exploring Middle-earth.

Ghosts of the past whisper within the ruins scattered throughout these once-prosperous North Downs regions. Long ago, this was the location of Fornost, also known as Norbury of the Kings, the principal city of the Kingdom of Arnor, the North Kingdom of Men. Now, all that can be found are the weathered remains of the strong walls and majestic towers that fell to the fires of the great Battle of Fornost - the final chapter in the war that drove the Witch-king of Angmar out of these lands more than 1,000 years ago.

In the area of the Westfarthing known as Tookland, the most prominent village is Tuckborough.
