With only a few days left in Aion's open beta, pre-order numbers are coming in and NCsoft has confirmed that over 300,000 pre-orders have been activated. While these numbers aren't nearly the hype machine that precluded the launch of Warhammer Online or Age of Conan, it certainly is a respectable show of support.

Vg247.com talked with NCsoft regarding their success:

Aion project lead Christian-Peter Heimbach added that the game’s real western test will come post-launch.

“We have a strong belief in the game,” he said. “We know the quality… and we also have hard numbers, as Vero already confirmed. We’re happy to say that we’re really confident.

After last year's big title launch letdowns, players seem to be waiting in the wings to see how this year's games do before making that initial investment. The hope here will be to see interest rise after the release rather than suffer the plummet in subscriptions that had plagued WAR and AoC.
