I've been following Black Desert Online for a while but the fact I can only speak and read English is hindering any desire I have to play the game. There's no news yet on a Western release, but there's plenty of people playing the game who are publishing promising impressions.

Over on Steparu.com they’ve just published what is quite possibly the biggest review of Black Desert Online’s PvP and Guild versus Guild combat. For anyone who knows little about the game, it’s is an upcoming sandbox-oriented massively multiplayer online role-playing game by Korean video game developer Pearl Abyss. What makes it stand out from the crowd is the fact that it’s not only beautiful but that it also has a parkour system as well as a dynamic world-wide weather system. The fact that the combat system requires precision aiming, as opposed to pure tab-targeting also makes it incredibly desirable for hard-core Player versus Player lovers.

In the review Steparu talk over several key points such as strategy, trust, alliances, PvP balance and the Karma system. There’s a lot to read through here but I think it’s well worth doing so. The most interesting section for me was the discussion on class balance, especially due to the enchantment system. Balancing any massively multiplayer game is a headache, especially when there's so many variables sadly it sounds as though Black Desert Online has a fair bit of grinding to do, just to get to the standard neccesary in order to compete.

Honestly, I don't even know about class balancing anymore because of the enchanting system. Pearl Abyss is extremely working hard on class balancing because they would always nerf or buff skills daily during the final test. Is it enough? Perhaps it is, but it's extremely hard to balance content when everyone is upgraded. Which is one of the reasons why I spent most of my time farming during the final test. Like most MMORPG's enchanting gear is very rewarding and it plays a big role in PvP survival. I just wish the developers would add more ways to obtain enchanting stones other than purely grinding monsters and one time mainstory quests.

Lastly, here's one of the videos from the article in 1440p glory. Enjoy.
