38 Studios founder and baseball legend Curt Schilling has posted an apology on the NeoGAF forums regarding the recently launched Xbox Live demo for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Reckoning is slated to launch next week and will be the first introduction to fans of the studio’s upcoming MMORPG currently codenamed Copernicus.

Schilling, who argued against having a demo with publisher EA, now admits how right they were given the additional exposure the game has gotten. Unfortunately, some of that exposure came from a topic about the demo’s bugs in which Schilling took some time to address some of the complaints in the thread and offer an apology to fans.

Let me start by apologizing. The demo? Ya, it is way way WAYYYYY more buggy than anything ANYONE should ever release, much less a demo.

Schilling went on to elaborate a bit more in his post.

In a partnership there is a lot of give and take, and I believe in my team, they are world class, but when you have a publisher there are things happening you'd rather not choose. Shipping old code out 3 months prior to gold master to a 3rd party with no stake in the demo success can be problematic. I am sure they made the best demo they could but as a studio packed to the gills with gamers, we refuse to believe code has to be unplayably buggy at launch, it doesn't.

So to those that have had a horrid demo experience, I'm sorry, it's on us, our name is the name on the box we care about.

I promise you, my word, that demo from a bug perspective is in NO WAY representative of the final code or product.

Schilling took a little more time to talk about his past as a gamer and even offer a friendly jab at New York Yankee fans and talk about his goals for 38 Studios.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is scheduled to launch on February 7th, 2012. You can learn more about the game and the team behind it in our recent interview with the developers.
