Maxis recently announced the start of a special closed beta phase for Darkspore. Players that would like to experience Darkspore can join the game's closed beta via Steam. The beta phase will continue from now through Friday, April 1st, 2011. Darkspore is scheduled to official launch on April 26th, 2011 and is available for pre-order through the Steam store.

Beta Available Exclusively on Steam – Maxis Invites Gamers to Jump In!

Maxis is happy to announce today the opening of a new closed beta for its upcoming online action RPG Darkspore! The game will be available to PC gamers everywhere on April 26, 2011, and Maxis is using the additional time to further balance and fine-tune the game, incorporating fan input, so that the game is just right when unleashed toward the end of next month.

Prospective gamers can experience Darkspore early by jumping into the new closed beta, which opens today at 3pm PT and lasts through Friday, April 1 at 12pm PT. Following the simple instructions there, players will be battling the Darkspore with up to 4 people in co-op and enjoying the intense 1v1 or 2v2 PvP action the game has to offer in no time!
