En Masse Entertainment recently reached a deal with e-commerce company Digital River to provide certain services for TERA, but due to the wording of the press release it led to some speculation that TERA might be utilizing some sort of microtransactions. However, senior producer Brian Knox has confirmed that this isn't the case in a recent statement to Massively. Knox explains that TERA is not a microtransaction or cash shop item game

"TERA is not a micro-transaction or cash-shop item game. The game is built and designed to function as a subscription-based game. We would have to make dramatic changes to the game's design to support micro-transactions and there is no intention of doing so."

Knox goes on to explain that TERA will have paid character services such as name and gender changes, character transfers, and possibly more not named as of yet. But Knox does go on to state that there may come a time in TERA's life cycle when vanity items, pets, or other items could be offered.
