Over at the Square-Enix store, you can pick up the FFXIV collector's edition for PC, PS3, and PS4. It's important to note that these could sell out and are limited run, meaning that you may lose your chance at every picking one of these up. Heavensward launches next month, on June 23rd, so it's important to snag one up rather quickly. The collector's edition has a swath of cool goodies, including:
- In-Game Flying Griffen Mount
- In-Game Dark Knight Cecil-themed Baron Helm
- In-Game Wind-up Kain Pet
- In-Game Fantasia (Character apperance potion).
- Dragon Mount Figure (IRL)
- Art of Eorzea (IRL)
- Content Disc (Eorzea in Motion)
You'll snag early access and all of the other pre-order bonuses (Baron Circlet & Earrings and the Chocobo Chick Courier).
I'm normally very much against pre-orders, but for an MMO you pretty much have to. It's tough thinking about that in this modern era where pre-orders can land you into hot water with like Assassin's Creed: Unity where you buy a game without knowing that's actually a half baked trainwreck that, while it'll be patched up, the stress and anxiety along with the fact you've already spoiled half the game hobbling around with these bugs makes it pretty annoying. Yet, with an MMO expansion, you kind of know what you're getting into. It's not risky because you know what the game is, what the expansion is, and it's about as risky as paying your monthly fee.
As for if the collector's edition is worth it, well, I've bought tons of Square-Enix and Final Fantasy collector's editions and have been happy with the quality, but I'm a fan and I'm an even bigger fan of real life cool things, instead of just virtual goodies, so I think it's rather nostaglic that the IRL collectables are being offered (even though it's at a high price). If you enjoy the statue and art books, then it's for sure worth the money. If you're just a casual player, probably not. The digital collector's edition ahs everything sans the IRL stuff, for $59.99, a $20 markup.
Either way, FFXIV: Heavensward seems like it's going to be a ton of fun and if you want the collector's edition, snag it up now.
