Nexon took their free-to-play MMORPG Mabinogi offline last week with only an hour notice to players to prevent massive real money transactions from taking place. According to This is Game,  Nexon posted an update to Mabinogi players an hour for the October 4th downtime, which sent the game into hibernation to update security measures to help combat RMT according to This Is Game. Nexon also plans to compensate its players for the downtime incurred.

“We have found lots of RMT rising from ‘the workers and auto players’ during last holidays. So we are working on investigation over it and proceeding broadscale system maintenance to root it out,” said Nexon to TIG over the telephone. “Some are saying the reproduced gold caused this server down, but it’s not true. This is totally about the RMT and the workers. Since this such huge situation happened inevitablely without any notice days ago we will compensate the players reasonably.”
