I never thought I'd see the day where Snausages are compared to the birth of MMO's, but here I am. In this Patreon exclusive content, Sardu delivers his thoughts on innovation, a doggy meat treat and the massively multiplayer industry.

We've pulled out the opening extract from Sardu's article below and if you'd like to carry on reading it, head on over to our Patreon: it costs as little as $1 per month to support Ten Ton Hammer.

Throughout human history, countless innovations and technological advancements have fallen by the wayside due to a combination of commerce and a cautionary approach to consumer acceptance. There have also been a fair few instances of competitive rivalries holding sway over what ultimately becomes the accepted standard on a consumer level. One need look no further than what is known as the War of Currents and how that ultimately impacted our usage of electrical currents.

As impact as these moments in time have been on a grand scale, it is more often the case that the simple repackaging or re-branding of an existing concept becomes a mainstay of consumer culture. This is absolutely the case with what ultimately became known as MMORPGs (these days most often simply referred to as MMOs). In many ways, I would liken the birth of the MMO industry to that of Snausages.
