WildStar gets news and a pretty new trailer for its upcoming UltraDrop. Lord of the Rings Online's Update 15 adds in a new class. Dawngate gives us sad news. Eldeven announces a Steam release. Webzen's Sevencore is now available.

WildStar

One thing I like about WildStar, even after the sad news of layoffs at Carbine, is that it can stay weird. The weird of WildStar was a major part of my draw to the game. Carbine has begun to show off what is coming with the next update for WildStar, which begins with a trailer. At the core of the next update, which continues both Mystery of the Genesis Prime and Journey to OMNIcore-1 stories, lies The Defile, a new level 50 zone. The Defile not just comes with new lore, quests, and sights to see, but a new world boss, public event, and more. Their press release promises more news released this week (my bet is that whatever it is, it happens over at this page).

The next drop isn't the only news from Carbine, though. They also released part three of Loremageddon, highlighting the Cassians and the Exile Humans. What distinguishing differences are between the two? One came first, and if you're not up on your lore, you can dive into the history here to learn where each of the two comes from, which faction split off, and what lead them to where they are now. Cassians definitely have better names, that's for certain. If you're not into lore, I recommend still taking a look at the pages. The art work is always worth it.

Lord of the Rings Online

Update 15 introduces a new class, the Beorning. These creatures are shifters – existing half as man, half as bear – which uses Wrath as a power resource. Like Energy or Rage in other MMOs, Wrath is something that needs to be built up. Beornings need Wrath to shift into a bear. Wrath is also necessary to use certain abilities, regardless if you're in human or bear form. Beornings will be able to take traits allowing them to be tank, DPS or support. If you've missed Jeff's dev tour for Update 15, you might want to check it out! As for community response, players are feeling that this update is rushed and they're confused by the Beorning being a major part of LotRO, since they were such a minor part in the novels.

Dawngate

Dawngate, the MOBA that wanted to redefine the genre, has decided after months of player testing to call it quits. This is an unfortunate decision, and obviously not one made lightly. Developer Waystone Games feels that even after six months of open beta and eighteen months of beta testing total, the game just wasn't getting to the point they wanted it to be. I remember when Dawngate was announced, and even though I'm not a huge MOBA player, the game had some interesting systems it wanted to bring to the table. It's always sad news hearing that a game is shutting down, and in Dawngate's situation, it didn't even get to the launching point. Here's hoping Waystone doesn't give up altogether and they'll have something on the horizon.

Sevencore

Webzen has officially launched yet another MMORPG in its arsenal, Sevencore. Sevencore is available for anyone to play through the Webzen website. All that is needed is a Webzen account, which is free, as is Sevencore. Sign up and see what happened to an ancient civilization that ended up in another dimension. Sevencore is the name of these travelers who have returned and now manipulate their previous world from the shadows. With the news of Sevencore coming to Webzen, they've released a trailer for the game.

Eldevin

Scottish indie developer Hunted Cow Studios announced that their free-to-play game, Eldevin, releases on Steam tomorrow. I've written about the game a couple of times, because like WildStar, I like the game's humor. There's a bit of whimsy to the game, which can be seen in their mount design, which I definitely appreciate. Eldevin is available to play through your browser, as a stand alone client, and now via Steam, where it was previously Greenlit. I haven't clocked in too many hours with Eldevin, but I found the game to be enjoyable, even if I played it before they added all the fun mounts to the game. They, too, have a new trailer to go with their news announcement.

Vendolyn's been playing MMOs since 1999, although Vendolyn in-game often becomes a long-term shelved alt. When she's not gaming, she's likely marathoning some questionable TV show or babbling about music to no end. She really likes goats.
