CD Projekt Red has announced two upcoming expansions for The Witcher III: Hearts of Stone ($10 USD) and Blood and Wine ($20 USD). You can purchase both for $25 and the full launch retail price of the base game plus the two expansions is $80. What's interesting is that CD Projekt Red asks players who are hesitant to refrain from pre-ordering the expansions, suggesting to play the game first and see how you enjoy it.

“While we’re offering the Expansion Pass now, we want to make one thing clear: don’t buy it if you have any doubts. Wait for reviews or play The Witcher and see if you like it first. As always, it’s your call,” Iwiński concludes.

That's awesome that a developer speaks up about that. Another thing of interest is to note that these are not "DLC" releases, but full expansions, like games of old, and will provide a ton of content for the price, instead of just random additions and weapon skins. This is a rather big deal in the modern Internet, considering a lot of DLC is just skins for your tractor trailer truck and some cool hats.

The content is also rather cool:

Hearts of Stone will take Geralt on an all-new, 10-hour-plus adventure into the wilds of No Man’s Land and the nooks and alleys of Oxenfurt, where he’ll try to complete a contract from the mysterious Man of Glass. Caught in a thick tangle of deceit, Geralt will need all his cunning and strength to solve the mystery and emerge unscathed.

Blood and Wine, a 20-hour-plus tale that will introduce the all-new in-game region of Toussaint, will take Geralt to a land untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret.

You have two options on what you could engage in, one of which sounds like a detective story and the other sounds like some kind of crazy Bioshock: Infinite type scenario where you show up to this beautiful city that turns out to be, well, not so beautiful. I'm pretty excited about these announcements.

The Witcher III comes out next month and retails for $59.99, but can often be found around the $50 price point (especially on GoG). You can pre-order now at Buy.TheWitcher.com.
