  • I am now going to admit to you something that I've never admitted to anyone in my life. . . I don't read lore. It's not something that attracts me. With that said, I have read Dusktreader's Lycan Lore. I was spellbound through the entire piece.

The army cut large swaths through the forest as they advanced, and built siege weapons from the trees. Large bonfires burned through the nights. Alcoa’s walls were too high and its city too well protected to directly attack it, so the invading army took camp outside of its gates. Controlling the fertile lands beyond the city, they hoped to starve them into submission. While the months passed, the men of Isathule foraged the wilderness clean for many miles.

Pauh appeared to the tribal leader Trigould and told him of the ruin the army wrought on the land. True to his word, Trigould gathered his hunters and their large grey wolves to prepare to defend the land.

As Trigould and his clansmen approached the encampment, they saw the army of Isathule outnumbered the hunters of Cohanna nearly ten to one. Trigould knew their chances of victory were slim, and even with the goddess behind them he feared the loss of his tribe.

If you're looking for a good story you have to read the rest.

  • Just when you think there is no E3 coverage left to be had... you find that you were so so wrong. Warhammer Online is the game. GamersInfo.com is the place.

The first sight to greet me as I sat down was my Ork character, beautifully armored in a set of haphazard armor, was that the enclosure had the look and feel I was expecting for an Ork encampment. The next thing I noticed was the presence of goblins and other Ork allies. Leaving the camp and approaching a stunning giant I was introduced to what was perhaps my favorite feature. Here I was automatically given a quest by the giant to fetch him 20 casks of beer that were conveniently lying around the area. This is something I have never seen in a game before but will be great for players like me who love to explore and find new things to do. As I moved further out from the camp I began to notice other features of the world. Sadly before I could explore much farther it was time to get up and go talk to the developers of the game.

Now, find out what Ratboy is up to at our Warhammer Online Community.

  • Because I am just that opinionated, I've been blogging. You may have read One a Side Note, you may have not. However, you should read this one.

I’ve been reading forum post after forum post on how people are going to boycott Vanguard because it’s being co-published by SOE now rather than Microsoft. Have I spent my career as an SOE fangrrl? Uh no. As a matter of fact, more often than not I poke my finger in that corporate chest and sneer with derision. Thankfully they still talk to me. Actually I believe that shows that they have a sense of humor that they can take those jabs and keep on trucking.

You can read all of the blog entries right here.

So far you see everything from the E3 circus to flying Bawls.

  • Them's fightin' words!

Chinese CEO William Ding takes PvP into the board room, saying that Netease has what it takes to compete in China, and Blizzard (of World of Warcraft fame, et al) doesn't.

Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) knows China better than competitor Blizzard, reports Shanghai Securities News quoting Netease CEO William Ding after the company reported its first quarter financial results on Thursday. Ding said Netease' success in the Chinese online game market is enhanced by its skill at attracting Chinese consumers with traditional Chinese culture. Ding also said that Netease develops online games strictly targeting Chinese gamers while Blizzard's online game World of Warcraft broadly targets the international gaming market.

Ding's efforts could be aided by the fact that whenever he's introduced to a room full of MMO gamers, they reflexively say "Gratz!"

Check out Netease's bold statements toward World of Warcraft and Blizzard at Pacific Epoch.

  • Well, they want to study us now. It's official we've all just passed from geekdom to really really interesting.

Want to provide input about your ‘City of’ gaming experiences?
    Thursday, May 18, 2006

This study is a doctoral research project undertaken by Lisa Galarneau, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Screen and Media Studies at the University of Waikato in New Zealand. The study is looking specifically at social behavior related to online games with an emphasis on City of Heroes/City of Villains. In particular, the study is exploring how players achieve mastery of the game(s) through their interactions with one another and how the game environment is affected by player contributions. At the end of the survey, you will have the option of enrolling in further phases of research. The full study involves a number of phases over a period of a year, including in-game observation, the survey, and follow-up interviews.

You can click here. to take this survey and show them all how twisted we can really be.

  • The new newsletter is out. Since I'm on a Chronicles of Spellborn bent lately all I can say is that you absolutely need to sign up for it and read the information within. I know I know. You're saying "Awen, you seem to get excited about alot of these games."

You are absolutely correct. There are so many games out right now that look fantastic. It could be my absolute need to get away from WoW but I don't think so.

However, I digress. Go to the Chronicles of Spellborn site and sign up for the newsletter. You won't be sorry.

The 8th TCoS newsletter has been sent out! Among the regular items the newsletter contains lore about the destruction of the Ancestor World, a multi screen wallpaper and information about the upcoming dev chat!

Because of the large number of subscribers, it might take a while before all copies have been sent out. As always comments are welcome in the forum thread linked below.

  • As you all know, Wolfpack Studios is no more. However, something good has come of its closing.

From the ashes of Wolfpack Studios, a new company has formed called Stray Bullet Games (SBG). Unlike Wolfpack, SBG is not a Ubisoft company. Instead it is a Third-Party Development Studio. This basically means the studio is, technically, answerable to itself. I say technically because, obviously if a studio undertakes a contract from a publisher, that publisher will be making payments and will garner them at least some say in the project they are contracting for.

Which brings us to Shadowbane. Ubisoft has contracted Stray Bullet Games to keep Shadowbane alive and well. Since SBG is not a Ubisoft company, things will be a little different than it was with Wolfpack Studios. For the most part, these changes will be transparent to players.

Is Shadowbane the only thing Stray Bullet Games is working on? At this point I cannot go into much detail but there are other things in the works. Stray Bullet Games definitely does not plan on being a one-trick pony. And, of course, we have the goal of designing and crafting our very own next-generation MMO.

You can read the rest here.

This is great news for the players as well as the people who were able to stay. I have a friend or two that had their fingers crossed. With any luck we'll see more good things come out of this new company.
